Hi,

Since there isn't a keyboard shortcut for brush variants, and we can't customize keyboard shortcuts to activate brush variants, another method is to choose the Eraser variant, then drag its brush category icon onto the Painter screen to create a Custom Palette. Read how to create, use, and manage Custom Palettes in:

Painter IX Help > Help Topics > Contents tab > A Workspace Tour

On the right panel, click the link named "Custom Palettes" and read the entire page that displays next in the right panel.

Painter offers many "general use" Eraser variants, that can be used for special situations with most brush variants' paint.

Some Eraser variants can be used only with non-Eraser variants found in the same brush category where that Eraser variant is found.

For instance, the Watercolor brush category has its own Eraser variants and Eraser varants from other brush categories won't work on a Watercolor Layer with Watercolor paint.

The same is true for Digital Watercolor paint while it remains wet.

It's also true for Liquid Ink Layers and Liquid Ink paint.

If you need to use several different Eraser variants, they can be added to a Custom Palette so, with a single click on an icon, the appropriate Eraser variant is selected.
