CGTalk - samurai armour

I have been snooping arounf this site for almost a month but this is my 1st post ever... it's intimidating to post in forums where there are so many great artists when you are fairly young.... C&C is always welcome and wanted

modeled in max rendered with the lightracer plugin and skylight

I am a terrible renderer so any advice would be welcome.. any programs you would suggest any combanations that come out well etc....

p.s. I just started high poly modeling about a mont h ago but was involved in game art for about 8 months before that but the seem to me to be totally different

Let me give you an idea of the scene im going for... a young boys father died in battle and he is kneeling before his armour clutching the sword.... i hope to incoperate some awesome shadows and set the mood with a low sun coming in through the window behine the boy to cast a shadow.. it will give it a sad feel and i think an orangish type lite would really look cool.. any other ideas?

and with out further adooo some more stuff (please give me some crits)

should i meahs smooth the armour or not here are the 2 versions tell me which one you like best (note the non mesh smoothed jagged edges can be smoothed out with more cross sections i.e. where the chest plate almost is as the shoulder)
