Man Iv been looking everywere for it but I cant seem to find any bridge tool in Maya4.5.
For those who know lightwave, its like polysew or quadsew.
Please is it there or is there a script to do this simple operation?.

Iv already looked at Highend3d.com but coulden't find anything like it, so I assume its already in maya, I just cant for the life of me find it.

Help would be great.:surprised

what exactly do you want to do? You say "Bridge", so do you want to create a new polygon between two edges? If so use just use "Append to Polygon" tool.

If you want to sew two edges together then use "Merge Multiple Edges" or the "Merge Edge" tool.

Quite simple really. If you cant see a tool to do function x, then just use what you've got. It's not hard.

Aaaaah i seeeeeee. I coulda used a tool like that on my last project (needed holes in a belt). Ummm yeah, only thing I can suggest is doing it by hand. Say do an extrude edge and then merge the resulting edges. Shouldn't be hard to write a script to do that tho, would have thought someone would have done that already

I had in mind to code a proper bridge tool for Maya, in MEL, along with some other usefull tools... but too bad I'm now an LW'ist :hmm:

Damn, even had that proper connect halfway done... oh well...
(No, Mickel's connect isn't totally and utterly 100% perfect ;))

Yeah, bought the educational version of LW, don't have the money for Maya :hmm:
I would've taken the educational version of Maya instead, but I don't think it's possible, because I live in Finland... atleast it would cost crazy amounts of money, like the LW's license: 395$ in USA, 550$ here... and there isn't even a reseller which would sell the educational licenses of Maya, here, so I just gave up the idea and went for LW.

A proper license of Maya would maybe be possible to get, but I didn't have (And certainly don't have anymore ;)) 2000$... or 2500-3000$ what it propably would cost here :annoyed:

Maya DOES have a bridge tool...or at least similar. You have to download the bonus game package from the AW website.

it is called "connect border edges" limitation is it only works with border edges or holes.....you just select the edges and the corresponding edges and it will create a new mesh as a result

It's a bit late now, I'm just a poor school-student, so my budget is on quite tight, and as I just got LW a week ago, I wouldn't want to ditch it immediately ;)

But I agree, I do like Maya, maybe more than I yet like LW... but money's a rather big issue. (And I'm getting tired to use "special version" - if you know what I mean - while waiting for AW's reply to my emails or reseller inquiries... they can keep their damn software then...)

i am using 4.5.....and bonus game package seems to work fine! install at your own risk though.

Please note that all 4.0 plugins will not work with 4.5....although most(if not all) SCRIPTS will work! .)

I am actually using scripts from 1.0 and 2.0....its only the plugins that need to be recompiled.

Bonus Game has several plugins that have been integrated into 4.5....so dont install any plugins....because 4.5 should already have it -which means you will be able to use most of the tools!

Special note: DO NOT install the updated UV Texture editor because it replaces(but does not overwrite the default) the 4.0 Texture Editor....you dont want this if you are using 4.5 because the UV texture editor has some new and kick ass menu items. What i ended up doing was customizing the scripts(i am very new with mel) so i could put them on the shelf of 4.5 instead...but still using the icons from 4.0
