Pistols 12-20-2001, 11:54 AM Can some one tell me why my max4.2 sucks so much ?
I can't rotate anything with my mouse...
I can just rotate thing via the "RotateTransformType In" window
And this really sucks
really really sucks ....specially for character animation :)
This "bug" already appear in the max3.1 version ...
Hope some one cant take me out of this mess

This is something that I've never run into, or even heard about. Hrmmm.....let's try an old MAC solution. Delete your prefs file (3dsmax.ini...save your UI first if you're using something special) The next time MAX loads it'll use default settings again.

was it working before? or have you never been able to rotate with the mouse?
Erm - not being all to helpful, but I've never had this problem... ever! (been using since r2.5)- very odd indeed, so if you do locate what it is - please let us know!

I don't know your experience level with MAX, so forgive me if the following suggestion seems a little...simple.
I used to frequently hit the spacebar by mistake, which locks transformation on whatever object you have selected. Sometimes it took me a few frustrating minutes to figure out that this was why I couldn't manipulate anything. Have you checked to see if this is the problem? There's a button along the bottom under the trackbar/timeslider that looks like a little lock, and if it looks 'locked' then that's why no rotate!
BTW, I would agree that 4.2 sucks dirt, mainly based on the fact that it's so much slower to load up than previous versions. It also sucks up memory during rendering more than any previous version that I have used (unless I render from video post - for some reason that works on much less RAM).

Ok, If found my mistake, so This will be the last reply for this post :)
Unfortunatly, it was my fault, my mistake...chabadabada
If the fact that you cant rotate anything with your mouse, just check this
Preference settings/Viewports/Move/rotate Tranforms
And you will find a small "Rotation Incr" spinner, put a nice "1", removing this awful "0.0001" as a value, voila, it works.
Im a such idiot =)
