View Full Version : filthy kid quickmodel
Started that as a side project to test things out in terms of color+spec+nmap texturing.
Still a bit of work to be done on materials... mostly trying to make it quick :D

Micheal would love to meet this lil bondage dude. LOL I really like the face, it has a peter pan look to it, like his one of those dirty little lost boys. but it doesn't really fit the body, which is a nice design, but to me the head and body don't work well together, when i saw the post I thought you had done a dirty knees kinda kid, who catches frogs or something. Do you plan on mapping dirt or damage onto the armor?
Solid Work, keep it up
Hey everyone, thanks for the replies
Sure Wayne for some reason I wanted to work on that without thinking too much about it, I just doodles as I went along and the result is a bit of a mismatch :) I think a slightly older face would have been better. But hell that was fun to do without beeing too much into it, like, a bit of done every once in a while.
Cuzzo, done!
I accidentally used a very long neckbone but I ended up liking the creepy looks it gives when combined with lowered shoulders. Arms also seem short, mainly because of the large cylinders around them I think... But I like the overall 'secondary character' look anyways.

This is an awsome model. The texturing work is really nice. You should animate him. He reminds of somthing you would see in a steampunk setting.

thats exactly what i was waiting for a rig, but now that its rigged pior do you have any major problems with intersection of the limbs...becuase i see the thumbs intersecting into the leg...being that the body is small and the forearms are big i would think that will stop alot of movement from the character...but all in all that is a sweet character man...face and all

Outstanding!
The mesh is deceptively low poly, yet it does the job perfectly!
Brilliant textures and character design - everything works really well!
Did you only use spec mapping? The belt buckle looks bump mapped or something.
Ive never used this emoticon before, but i will now:

hey cool design and nice realisation.
i like his dark outfit and dirty face with his purple eyerings.
just a few points:
- i would leave out the pattern on his scarf. without it it was better cause you could see some folds and it was clearer. maybe brighten it up a bit and add more specular, so the folds are clearly visible.
- his complete outfit is monochromatic. some colour variations and nuances would be cool. even some differences in value would add to his whole appearance
- same on his metalrings on his arms. they look all the same, no variations
- make some things more readable, make them pop out. you can do it with his belts, boots..so some areas will be recognised clearly and will not just be a black mass from the distance.
P.S.: haha - your bunny on your page is great !!!

I believe he used Normal mapping. Went on his site last week and Mr Pior is quite the Ninja artist.

You should read the first post and stop guessing :)
Check out those links also..
Hi again
Thanks for the nice words everyone! Andy, love your Bunny :)
And yeah as 6gZ pointed I am using normalmapping to fake geometry on the lowpolygon model. The maps are 512s which I think is enough for that kind of 'secondaryish' character :

It was a fun model to work with and I've learned a few things on the way :) I've been documenting that same process for another quickmodel I did yesterday, will try to post the tutorial as soon as I have it up.
Yay!
