Hi,

I have x, y, z data of Vancouver Island Canada, and I am interested in creating an application that will simulate flying over the island. The purpose of this task is one for personal pleasure and two, to test a high performance embedded DBMS.

I admit to being a complete newbie in this field and would appreciate any help or links to good sites. Specifically I have the following questions:

1) I currently have rastor data and am unsure whether i need to vectorize the data. If I do need to, what are good algorithms?

2) Once i have vectorized the data, what is a good C interface to develop with. I am currently investigating OpenGL.

I'm not sure if I understand your question but here is a tip:

If you already have the (x,y,z) data, simply loop through your data and plot the data:

i.e. opengl c
glBegin(GL_TRIANGLES); //or however you want the data to be rendered
for(;all_data;) glVertex3f(x,y,z);
glEnd();

It takes more to render a texture, just read up at nehe.gamedev.net
