View Full Version : Games Industry $26 Billion In 2006
RobertoOrtiz 06-30-2005, 03:26 PM Quote:
"In an interesting move, DFC Intelligence analyst David Cole has run what he thinks are projected revenue numbers three ways, depending on which next-gen console--the Nintendo Revolution, the Sony PlayStation 3, or the Microsoft Xbox 360--becomes the dominant console of the next hardware generation.

While he declines to offer a clear view of the three outcomes, he does commit to minimum growth, regardless of the sales champ. Cole says the game industry is in line to go from its current baseline figure of $18 billion in software sales worldwide (in 2004) to $26 billion in 2008--a minimum 44 percent increase in revenues. "

what I never understood was, what is all that money done with? a company gets a good sale on a game, developers don't get it right, so where does it go?

...where does it go?To the people who took the giant risk of putting up the money to purchase the computers, rent the floor space, pay the developers, pay for marketing, arrange distribution, etc..
(a lot of money is put up by people for the very high risk of not getting most/any of it back)

the money goes into the bank, so when a company has some set backs and or has a game that doesn't do as well as hope, they have something to fall back on.
...and the people making the games get a cut. some studios give X amount of money for every game sold. so if a games sells Y amount...
X x Y = $$$
or in other words, big fat cash money hustler, pimpin' the bling bling, aiiit!

lets say a company recieved $75million from a single game, the game took about 2 years to develope.
Electricity, space and risk takers and all that stuff is paid off, atleast a 1-2 million or so is left, should developers get a little bonus for spending a little extra on that office
maan, I hope no game employee reads my post or else they say this MWARSAME is after our money, damn you MWARSAME

Well in my experience....working in the automotive sector for eight years as a software engineer. What a projected $26 Billion dollar revenue stream means to me is that you wont have to worry about finding a job if your good at what you do.
Working in the auto sector was about as good as it gets software dev wise a few years back but now.....alot of us are trying to cross over and get out. We also have been courted by entertainment/gaming industry companies via "workshops" and "resume days" to transition our skills to that side....Im defintely considering it since I've done game programming for the last 6 plus years as a side hobby.
