Title: My M&s Entry
Name: Olivier Ponsonnet
Country: France
Software: 3ds max
Hi,
This is my Master and Servant picture, I tried to make something slightly different and original. I don't even know if I've reached this goal, but It was really fun to achieve.
Thanks for your help during this challenge CGTalkers.
The story:
" She's an orphan, living alone in her cold and gloomy manor, served by little teddy bears.
She loves "playing" with them, torturing them.
Today, she's quite annoyed and upset: her favourite bear doesn't want to play any more..."

That's awesome, reiv. The orphan character looks great. And there's a lot of style to the render. One of the few pieces where I can't find anything to point out. :)

This is great work. I like the expression on the girl's face. Love the boots, and the entire design really works well!
I just went through your challenge thread and really enjoyed it. I think the lighting is better in this picture:
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/9/6155/6155_1114880162_large.jpg
But that's just my opinion. I like the rusty feeling, and the colors have a more dynamic/animated presence. But the latest one is just as good.
Great job!
EDIT: Another thing I like better in the picture I posted is the floor and the reflections. I also prefer the normal reflection over the squiggly one. But these are only my opinions! The latest render works best in mimicking a drawing.
Did you do a lot of post-color-correction on the pic?

vavro: Indeed I do color corrections on post prod. I add a slight noise, sharpen filter, modify the saturation and also my favourite filter : color balance :), which is quite important in this picture.

I love it too. It was one of the two best 3d entries in the challenge. True art... technical mastery, candy to the eyes, makes the mind spin with original thoughts.
To me the story looks like there's been a war between two teddy-bear armies, with the little girl as leader of one of them. (Perhaps the evil one?) There's one single surviving "good" teddy-bear, and one of the evil ones is pointing it out to its leader. "There, Master, there he is! Kill him now!"

I hardly ever check out the 3D forum - mainly because I don't understand anything of 3D and that makes me kind of unable to comment on those works.
But this - this is pure eye candy. I totally adore the Tim Burton feel to this. The colors make it so alive and wicked and it's just...awesome all together.

I really believe this image is the true winner of the contest. No doubt Krishnamurti M. Costa, Author of www.antropus.com, deserves all the respect of being a truly great artist, but this image envokes more emotion and is more thoughtfully deliverd with a much deeper back story. Glad to see this image found it's way to the front pages of CGTalk.com.
Stalhbergs take on the piece is fantastic but for some reason I saw it exactly as described by the artist. I might have got it right away because I can remember what it was like to be a child with a dark mind and a vivid imagination (GI-Joes and fircrackers). That memory is easily conjured here. Excellent work reiv.

One of my favorite entries within the entire challenge! The character design is phenomenal (kind of Tim Burton-esque), the atmosphere is well pronounced, and the [injured] teddy bear is so damn cute!! http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/love.gif

Hi Olivier
I have been a long time admirer of your work. This latest piece is simply amazing! Very nice atmosphere and composition. I particularly like the design of the main character and her clothing. The background almost looks 2d and was used as a backdrop as a result of compositing. Again - very good work.

I'm a big fan of this image.
It just blows me away.
I had to look a few times to believe it was 3D.
Incredible how textures and lighting are so good, it all fits together that well.
And the textures are just incredible. Love the hanging sheets and the teddies.
The colour creates such a strong mood it just heightens the drama.
It must be the complimentaries and triads playing their role.
And the whole goth decandent thing is just.. beyond words.
I better stop now :)
Just one thing I'm not too sure about - that's the bleeding teddies.
Only thing I'd really contest. Maybe a little too far on the dark side?
I have one question? Is there a lot of post work?
Congrats on the challenge it's fully deserved.
***** stars from me :)
