View Full Version : 2 quick question about light linking
HowardB 06-30-2005, 07:17 AM will light linking drastically help render time when you have 40+ lights in a room? if i link off all the objects that are behind light, and aren't getting lit by them, does it help compute faster? or does Maya ommit those objects already when its time to render
also is there an easy way of stopping newly created objects from automatically getting linked to all the lights?

Hi HowardB
1) Yes you will optimze your rendering time with light linking.
You'll see the difference on the shadow casting light.
2) Check the "illuminate by default" OFF for every light you want to become selective.
tip: You may also group objects sharing the same area in the environement.
It's easier for you and ( probably ) maya to light-link a group than a long list of items.
