Hi,
I'm learning with the demo version. Modo is ra eally cool application. Very intuitive. I have some probs with the worknplane as i do lot of modeleing with blueprint. But some tools are so Great that in forgot the missing one.

The G key from maya (repeat command)is really missing. I know that i can map to a key the last command.

And dropping tool is time consuming. I think it it would be great to have move/rotate/scale tools the ability to select deselect element before modiyng them.

I always fighting with bevel to from maya. But I still prefer my workflow in maya.

I'd like to know when a 1.1 or maybe 1.5 version will be released. I d love to buy modo but for know he missed some essentiel workflow IMHO.

Hope i'm clear enough in english. It's late for me

What specific problems are you having with the work plane?

And dropping tool is time consuming. I think it it would be great to have move/rotate/scale tools the ability to select deselect element before modiyng them.

You don't always have to drop the tool to select an element or to move to a new tool. For example, you can select a face, select the move tool ("W" on the keyboard), move the face and then press and hold down the "W", select a new face while holding down the "W" and release. This will reactivate "move" and now you will be moving the new selection.

You also do not need to drop the tool when switching from one more to another. For example, if you are moving an edge and then want to rotate it you can simply press the "W" to activate "move" and then, when you are ready, press the "E" to activate rotate. Pressing a new key drops the old tool and activates (picks up) the new tool. This is a bit faster than picking up, dropping and then picking up a new tool. This also works with clicking the icons if you prefer to click instead of using keyboard shortcuts.

I'm sorely tempted too - though I worry that it's been nine months since the last patch and modo isn't exactly bombproof, judging from the forums.

With Luxology's LightWave heritage I also worry that the team is keener on adding new features than getting rid of bugs. I've no doubt the former is much more fun than the later - though not necessarily for end users...

Salut,

The G key from maya (repeat command)is really missing.

It's been requested from the beginning. On the Luxology boards you can post in the Feature Requests,I'm almost sure this feature will be added though but it's good to ask if you really want it.I personally don't miss it from wings3d or XSI and there's always macros.Sure they're for the most used operations but you can also just use them temporarily and just not save them,it only requires one step to record and another one to apply, not much different from a recall tool action.

And dropping tool is time consuming. I think it it would be great to have move/rotate/scale tools the ability to select deselect element before modiyng them.

Dan said it,let's say you just selected a bunch of edges to be Moved, just hold down the hotkey for the move tool and do what you have to do,then release and you're back selecting things again still with the finger ready to re-use the tool, very intuitive.

Modo 102 was released in late january I think and although nothing's official,it's "secret de polichinel" that something big is coming at siggraph,Ijust don't try to figure it out since it's so soon. :)

I've been playing with the demo and am really liking it so far. I will most likely wind up purchasing Modo in the next week or so.

BTW... speaking of Siggraph... has anyone else gotten the "It's time for us to come clean and tell you everything that we've been working on" email from Luxology? That's about all the email says. Then mentions the "event" on August 2d at the Orpheum.

Yes I just read it.

Why now?
It's time. And it's really cool.

...and I'm sure it is. :)

No software is bomb proof. LW still has bugs that were in version 6, more than 5 years old now. People are still waiting.

Maya bombs on me now and then for no reason. I've even had Phtoshop disappear every now and then. It happens.

Since upgraxing video drivers, I have had very litle issue with Modo. And that, judging from the forums, is also a common opinion.

I wouldn't mistake what happened with Newtek with how Luxology does business. They are two different companies, I wouldn't mistakenly blame them for the faults of Newtek.l They were employees at Newtek and therefore at the mercy of what management wants, even if it's not in the best interest of the customers. Trust me on this, I know that routine from experience all too well.

These people also left Newtek, apparently having a difference of opinion with management, although we don't and never will know the actual details.

Modo is released with a lot of the issues people had with LW addressed, and lots of the features people had asked for included.

If anything, Luxology has shown a real committment to the customers.

As for having been 9 months since the last release, I purchased it jsut before midnight on December 31, 2004 and I got version 101. They released an update roughly a month later. that's only been like 5 months since the last release (which fixed early bugs) it's only 1 month from a major release and apparently it's a real big one.

the lack of the g key is a bit of a pain - I *hope* they put it in - it does not seem that it would be too difficult from a programing perpective.

Right now is a great time to take advantage of the LW offer - do you have a licence that you can use to get the discount?

cheers,

thank you guys for your answers. I'm still playing with the demo version. It's still nice. I found "workflow" weird but It's because I usually work with maya.

I didn't know for holding down a tool (ei W) select some other element and release. It's nice and increase workflow.

I love the edge weighting !! and seneca's scripts their so productive.

It's a nice software. And I'm waiting for luxology revelation @ siggraph.
