View Full Version : Tablet PC with Lightwave
I'm interested in getting a Tablet PC to use for sime ple modelling and animating in layout. rendering will be sent to workstation.
The reason I ask because I use LW mostly for hobby less making money. So, I don't want to sit and work on the desktop as I have done for at least 8 hours at work, but need to lay back on my easy chair, putting my legs on the coffee table and enjoy LW, and well as sketching in PS.
Is ther anyone using Tablet PC with LW out there, and how does it feel? (I know it would slower but if it more comfertable it might be better)
Thanks,

I use a Wacom Imtuos 2.
I reckon I couldn't do without it, as I find it more natural in my hand than a mouse.
I would highly recommend it.

Thanks guys,
I also have been using Wacom Intuos. I works great except for sketching because the size of the tablet andthe size ofthe monitor. For example, I want to fraw a line, 1 cm. long, it would be only .5 cm. or maybe less. As old school, hand draw people, I have a hard time to sketch on Wacon.
Moreover, I mostly now modeling in Modo where I can do rough modeling as well as desing it at the same time wothount the need for orthogonal viewports. I aslo want to lay back and do my habby in the living roon instead of my office after 8-12 hours of work.
Now I'm on it, but not sure which one I want, full scale, Toshiba M4 with SATA hardrive and 128 MB Geforce 6600 or smaller M-200 with only 32 MB geforce 5200. For Photoshop and sketching M-200 would fine, but for LW and Modo, those are my concern.

I was in the same boat a few weeks ago, and I decided to go with the Tecra M4 with the 6600. The base model is only $100 more than the M-200 and it's got much better components. You have to pay extra to get an optical drive with the M-200 and it's external. For Lightwave, the video card actually isn't going to matter that much so you could even go for the 6200 and put that money towards more RAM or an extra battery.
Also I'll save you some frustration I went through trying to get pressure support for the pen; some apps (like Flash and Photoshop) didn't support the pen pressure while other apps did. After much pulling of hair, I came across the enhanced tablet driver (basically legacy drivers for pre-tablet pc software) at wacom.com/tabletpc. For Toshiba models there's an extra zip file to download, but once all that is installed it works like a charm.

Can't say I'm a huge fan of using a tablet with LW, but a TPC works fine. You'll really like it for doodling or browsing from the couch. :)
