View Full Version : Noob question about viewports

I prefer to work in one large single view in LW, instead of using the default quad window view. This is nice, but I have a little problem. I know how to change the viewport mode by clicking on the tab and choosing Top, Side, Perspective, and so on.

But this can become quite slow. I hate to compare LW to other apps, but some programs allow you to manipulate the view port with short cut keys. One example is, with Num Lock on, using the number pad. Presing 1 will put you in side view. Pressing 7 will put you in top view. Pressing 0 will give you the camera view.

This is much better IMO as it is much faster. So my question is, can this be done in Lightwave 8?

Thanks for the help,

If you mean in Layout, you can use number keys to switch viewports.

In modeler SHIFT+F1 to SHIFT+F4.

When you are in the quad view, put your cursor over the viewport you want and hit 0 on the keypad. Hit it agin and it will go back to the quad view and you can move to another view and hit 0 again on the keypad.

The numpad in lightwave works just as you described. 1-3 is ortho views, 4 perspective, 5 light view, 6 Camera and 7 is Schematic. I think it also works with the regular number keys.

Hope it helps

In modeler, it works the same... you just have to set it up yourself.

By pressing Ctrl+NumpadKey (1-9) you can assign the current viewport panel or window configuration. For example, my 1-6 keys assign a viewport different shading modes and I use the 8-key to reset modeler to a standard quad with shaded wireframe.

When you do it, you'll get a pop-up panel and it's all pretty straight forward. Good luck.

Hope it helps...

Does this trick work with Layout?

Ctrl-NumpadKey doesn't work in Layout. Don't know if there is a way to change the assignments. Maybe by hacking into the configuration files?

Hope it helps...
