I posted this in the animation forum also, but thought some one here might be able to help tho..Sorry for the double post, but I am really freaked out!

This is bad, I just weighted this whole poly proxy model, and it deforms decently, and I went to test the sub d for deformation and it's stuck in an old pose I tried!

THe skeleton no longer affects the sub-d surface, I have no idea what I did!

I save a lot of versions, but I got ona roll with my componet stuff and have not saved in a long while, is their any way to fix this problem? it says I am still in poly proxy mode, I would hate to loose all this work.

any help VERY much appreciated...if you need pics just ask!

thanks!

What you could try is to duplicate a new sub-d model, go into poly proxy mode, and then use the copy skin weights function. is it a function or a script?: look for things like "saveskinweights.mel" on Highend. There's one that works quite well: lets you save weights either by point order or position.

hmm...I might try that, but seems really clunky that maya would just turn off like that. I have no idea what I could have done...is it a menu command?

I am just going to go back to an older save but I might try that as well... I just want to know why that would happen, very annoying.

Hi Kingmob,

What you need to do is go into your Up and down stream Graph (maya 4.0) it's called input and output connections in 4.5.

Make sure that Sub div shape history (mesh) is conected to the poly to subDiv node. If it's not go into the connection editor and connect the outmesh of the Shapehistory to the inmesh of the poly to subdiv node.

After that is done, make sure the shape node of the sub div shape node (subdiv) is connected to the poly to subdiv node as well. The out subdiv channel of the poly to subdiv node should be connected to the create channel of the subdivshape (subdiv).

If you find the original nodes you worked with, the wieght maps should be still there and you can keep going like nothing happened :)

um ok...wow this is strange.

I justy got done rendering something for a job and decided to open it back up and give your technique a go, when I noticed it was working....I tried last night to shut down maya and reopen it and all that jazz, but all of a sudden it works today.

Tho I have had this problem beefore, and I am sure your technique would fix it, this one decided to fix itself...um Horah for maya I guess. haha.
