Well.. First of all.. 4.0 is only officially supported on 2k.. not to say XP is going to run like hell with it.. But that’s what they officially support.. 4.5 supports XP now.. Officially anyway...
and a few tweaks to help XP run well with Maya...
Right click on desktop and change the windows theme to Windows Classic... I had a pain in the arse problem with 4.5 with that new bubbly XP on.. All I had to do was go back to windows classic interface...
Now.. Since you aren't using the extra special XP interface.. Do this to clear up some resources...
Click Start/Programs/Administrative Tools/Services/ and disable the Themes service.. This will clear up a bit of RAM and resources..
if Administrative Tools option isn't there.. Right click on start bar.. Go into settings.. You should see a long list of boxes and descriptions for the start bar... find the one that says 'Show Administrative Tools' or something along those lines...
And finally.. Make sure both Maya 4.0 and XP are both all up to date... also.. Check A|W's website because there are officially supported NVidia drivers and such.. That might be a good thing to try.. ::shrug::
good luck! :)

Hi
some time ago I setup a dual OS system (Windows 98 and Windows 2000). Basicly you need two separate system partitions. But I am not sure how to setup a Windows 2000/XP dual OS system.
MagikShooz why don't you switch to Windows 2000? In my opinion Windows XP hasn't a single advantage.
I am using Windows 2000 SP3 and Maya is running like a charm :)

MagikShooz, where is the problem?
Backup all your important stuff (Maya projects, shaders, favorites, EMails ... ) on CD or copy it over to another computer.
After you have done that format your hard disk and install Windows 2000

try removing and reinstalling maya...

You said you have to move in real close to get the move tool thingy..
try hitting + or - on the keyboard......
I doubt thats the problem but we all have missed silly things like that before..

I'd say windows 3.1 is the best. but thats my opinion. it has great 3d abilities, like winG.
