does anyone know anything about using a parti volume paired with a spot light which is connected to a physical light, i used it to get the volume light effect but i cant seem to raise the intensity on the spot light now?

You control the intensity of a physical light with its color attribute, in particular the value. Just use that the way you would the intensity setting of a maya light (i.e. you're not restricted to 0-1 range).
