Hey there,
The script structure doesn't change at all if there's no dialogue. Here's a small sample from my short script "Breaking the Silence".
FADE IN:
INT. BASEMENT – NIGHT
A SLEDGE HAMMER POUNDS into the cement floor. A flashlight
on a wooden chair dimly illuminates DARIN CRAY, shirtless,
early 30s, as he lifts the heavy hammer and brings it down
hard on the stubborn concrete.
FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
BASEMENT -- HOURS LATER
The flashlight's light dims as the batteries die. The early
morning sun has begun to shine into the dreary basement.
A large portion of the cement floor has been broken away,
leaving behind a hole several feet in diameter. Next to the
hole are dozens of READY-MIX CEMENT BAGS.
Darin enters frame with what appears to be a BODY WRAPPED IN A BEDSHEET. The man dumps the body into the hole.
He lifts one of the 80 lb bags of ready-mix cement and tears it open, pouring the sand and gravel mix into the hole over the sheet-covered body.
He discards the empty bag and grabs another. Tears it open. Pours. Discards.
FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
INT. MICHELLE'S BEDROOM – MORNING
SUPER: Twelve years later
MICHELLE CRAY, 16, a scrawny young girl, wipes the fog from
her barred window and watches a school bus pull up to the
curb a block away.
She cradles an old doll in her arms and rocks as if putting the "baby" to sleep. As the bus pulls away, Michelle turns around.
Her face is bruised just above her left eye. Her room is void of furnishings except for a worn mattress in the corner and a few toys scattered throughout.
She lays her doll on the mattress and pulls the sheet over
it, taking care not to wake her. She walks to a dry erase
board on the floor and lifts it. Michelle crudely writes the word "hungry" as a five year-old would write it.
She walks to the closed door of her bedroom and slides the
board underneath it. She pulls on a small cord by the door knob.
INT. OUTSIDE MICHELLE'S BEDROOM – CONTINUOUS
A small bell, which hangs from the locked door, jumps back
and forth as Michelle pulls on the cord.
INT. LIVING ROOM – CONTINUOUS
Darin, now in his 40s, is fast asleep on the recliner while
a game of basketball plays on television. O.S., the small
bell is barely audible.
INT. MICHELLE'S BEDROOM – CONTINUOUS
Michelle POUNDS on the door with her fist.
INT. LIVING ROOM – CONTINUOUS
The NOISE startles Darin out of his sleep.
INT. MICHELLE'S BEDROOM – CONTINUOUS
Michelle continues her assault on the door. Each strike more desperate and forceful than the one before.
INT. LIVING ROOM – CONTINUOUS
Darin hurries into the hallway to Michelle's room and lifts
the dry erase board from the floor. He slips it back under
the door.
INT. KITCHEN -- MOMENTS LATER
Darin opens the refrigerator. Inside are two bottles of beer and a mysterious food item wrapped in foil.
Darin opens the package and gags when he smells what's inside. He quickly disposes of the spoiled food down the food disposal.
INT. MICHELLE'S BEDROOM -- MOMENTS LATER
Michelle runs to her window and sees her father leave the
house and get into his rusted station wagon.
As the wagon pulls out of the driveway, Michelle walks to her mattress and lies down. She hugs her doll and closes her eyes.
NIGHTMARE SEQUENCE
A SERIES OF IMAGES IN QUICK SUCCESSION.
Her father strikes ANA, her mother, in the face with a closed fist. Blood splatters from Ana's nose.
Michelle then sees her father drag her unconscious mother
out of the nursery, disappearing into the hallway.
Hope this helps. Laters!
Albert
