ive never added an actual window to a model and i dont know how to go about it i have some made on a model im working on but i dont think i did it the right way here is a pic
http://home.att.net/~aarkon/Pics/WIP/windows.jpg
what i did was exstruded the faces that were there by 0.5 then resized them to the size i wanted and assigned the window matierial i then created a box to put behind the windows fliped the normals and deleted the face facing the windows this worked but when i assigned the matierial for the windows the rest of the main hull became transparent but only in the program ( not in renders) here is a pic

so im wondering if theirs a more proper way to add windows?

also i tried booliening a rectangle onto the ship but when i piced operand B it asked if i wanted it to inherit the matierial propertys i said no and max then crashed this happened before when i tried to boolien the cargo bay and i chose to inherit the matireial propertys it did the same thing and crashed any ideas as to whats wrong?

I think the idea of cutting these windows out is good ! Itīs all about the texturing, i think...

Try a noise-map as opac and spec (maybe also as bump) ! Glass is never so perfect... Try finding some images of glass-windows and tune your material. I think it will look much better then.

I think this type of thing belongs in the 3D Animation/3DS Max section.

Delete this thread and move to 3DS Max section and I will answer your questions today.
