Actually, Combustion 2 DOES fully support Maya formats. It even supports Z-Depth in Maya IFFs. It didn't BEFORE the service pack, but then again, it didn't RUN for more than a second or two before that service pack.

Shake is the best, Shake is just good for compositing? ..Umm..whoever told you that probably downloaded there version of Shake ;)
It dosen't ship with all the cool little specail effects plug- ins like the others do, but it is much more versatile with scripting and with the sapphire plug-ins the special effects it can achieve is the best in the biz..ATM.
Also it supports maya iff files and Z depth with no prob, and all the other wiz bang things to composite great stuff.

seems Shake will not be supported on PC anymore
there was a DigitalFusion version named MayaFusion but seems it will not be upated anymore too!
my suggestions (ordered):
1. combustion 2
2. after fx 5.5 pro bundle
3. digital fusion

Shake will still be supported for people that upgrade to 2.5, from a 2.46 version I think for at least another year.
Also, don't forget about Digital Domains new Compositor that is coming out, I have never used it personally, but it looks very promising, considering they use Maya (as well as others) I would imagine that it will support maya files and such. Here is the link:

Yes, camera export in Combustion 2 also. There is a plugin for Maya on Highend3D that does this. It works great.
