Some things when using max make me simply snap and close the app. I try to do things, but sometimes they get complicated and I can't undo things that were done when I almost only started the project...

Just to name some:

1. How can I preserve an object state ? Say I made some changes to it and after a while seems I want to restore the object to it's first state. It happens with bones many times when I want to make them restore to their normal state.

2. If I made changes to a mesh or, say, and FFD box, is there a way to make some vertexes return to their original position ?

Thanx alot guys.

Save the file as an icremental version.. if you are talking about restoring them to their original position then set a key for them on a frame and do your modifications on another frame.

Look through your help file on modifiers.. when editing a mesh , if you do so using an edit mesh modifier.. you simply delete or disable the modifier

Not quite so sure how you do so with an FDD box though.. you could always clone it as a copy and keep it hidden till you felt you needed it again. You can also set the level of undo operations Max holds whilst you are working.

Thanx alot guys.

About putting an editable mesh back to its first state, you can use the edit mesh modifyer as opposed to the convert to editable mesh. When using this you can get rid of the changes at any time by simply deleting the mod from the list in the top right of the right side toolbar (defalt UI)

Dunno if thats quite what you mean, but its good to know.

Thanx for the modifier tip guys.

Setting a key to store the state makes the whole animation change.
If I make a robot using bones (where using envelope embeds the heap of problems regarding my question, thus, getting lost with the mesh vertexes and undo's).
Something nice is that after applying the skin modifier, (if I get to that advanced phase) you usually freeze the mesh, so this is a great way to preserve state. But what do I do to make the robot restore it's position to it's inital state ?

I'm a bit confused here. The initial state is the one you set.. the model doesn't do it itself so if you set a key .. that shouldn't change.. can you elucidate why it is?:)

If you are talking about wanting to get the model in the same pose as at frame zero later in the time line,, the there are two ways (I think). easiest way is to go to frame zero and right click on the number slider in the timeline which brings up the create key dialouge and allows you to set keys elsewhere based on you current frame. Otherwise you can select the keys you want in trackview and copy and paste them. (im theory.. I've never had to try this as create key was ok for my needs.):)
