View Full Version : A shark lighting problem

Im sure i'll feel like the homer simpson of 3D later. But anyways, here goes.

Ive got this shark animation, but the light setup is causing me some trouble.

The light that is giving me the problems is the ambient light. It is causing problems by illuminating the inside of the sharks mouth. When ray traced shadows are on it makes the render look like a toon render. I want to light the outside of the shark exactly the same as the image attached shows but with shadows inside the mouth.

I also have an enviromental light source for the physical fog.
As well as three spotlights from above, that create the caustic beams of light, which ive left out from the attached image to give you a clearer idea.

Any ideas would be grateful

Cheers
Martin

Ambient Lights are generally something to avoid, because they light everything in the scene the same (usually). If you want to keep the Ambient Light, maybe fake the shadowing in the mouth by darkening the mouth shaders?

Darker Shaders, good idea.
Else you could reverse the normals inside the mouth and use single sided (it'll just be black tho').
