hi,

first sorry 'bout my bad english. hope i'll be able to explain what i want to do.
i'm trying to simulate some crinkly goldfoil as used on satellites which circle
around our little blue planet. i tried to use the danel-shader and the function
to deform the poly-surface (is that also called crinkle or something in english?) but the result does not convince me at all ... can someone plz give me any advice??

p.s. got the possibilty to use the early-bird-edition of 8 here - if this
makes any difference - but honestly i don't want to use it in this
project until the "final" version is out ...

dont use deformations, instead use a bumpmap for this, it will render a lot faster, if you need the profile to change then i suggest use a very small ammount of "Crumple" on the mesh. to get a good gold foil i suggest using displaced turbulence as the bump map, maybe turning on "Hard bump" and playing around with the ammount of bump to get the desired effect. Also for your environment map/reflection i suggest putting in bhodinut fresnel in multiply mode, and making those cahnnels the nice gold/yellow colour, bring the actual colour of the material right down to a very dark yellow brown, and bring the specual highlights right up, and tint them yellow.

hope this helps

this may help...

it's an aluminium foil shader for download, you could change the colour!
