Please someone help..this morning i was surfing the net and to make long story short a pop up installed on my pc some kinda file.My fire wall detected the file trying to get outside access to the internet and i blocked the access. But still that file managed to do minor damage to my pc...It destroyed all windows xp wallpapers and windows themes. And now im stuck with this scary looking blue background. And the worst part is when i open the display options all the tabs for themes and walpaper are gona as well and i cant even istall my own now.
If anyone can give me some info that can help me please do so.
I allready scanned the computer like four times and deleted all the mallicous files that where found
Any help is welcome!
Cheers!

My suggestion, and this is what I would do in your case, backup all of your files that you need. Reformat your hard drive and reinstall Windows. Download all updates and install anti-virus and anti-spyware. Use firefox for all of your web browsing needs. Don't download funny animated cursors... and that aligator... not your friend... and finally, take 2 advil and call me in the morning... ;)

Thanks for your replye, but i found a solution by just googling around in the net.I had to change some numbers in the registry caust the virus altered the registry and hid my display tabs...very snicky.
But thanx anyway,it would have beed a pain in the rear to reformat my hard drive and all.
Cheers!

I thnk the advice to format was based on the idea that you don't know what else was effected, and so a format makes sure when your comps back up that it's working spiffily!

However, if you're content with how things are, then you can hold off if it's still working. However, update all your anti-virus stuff and adware scanners, spyware scanners, etc, and scan your computer with the most complete settings - just to make sure :)

Most definetely,i think your advice is right on the money.I updated my virus definitions and then i shut down all suspicious services and ran couple of scans with mcafee and adaware.
After that i booted to safe mode and did it all over again. So now the computer is back to normal thank havens.
But i do apreciate all the advices i recived here.
Thanks and Cheers!

Good to know that it is back to normal for you.

In the future, if you have a virus, one thing to do as well is hit the Symantec security response site. Search for the virus that infected your computer and you should find instructions on getting rid of the virus properly. I'm not sure if it would have advice in your case as to how to repair the damage it has done, but then again, I'm not sure which virus took a round outta ya... :D
