I want to create a snowy mountain top scene, but I really have no idea of how to do decent texturing.. When i apply somekinda rock texture it's all flat and looks nothing like anything realistic..

I know i have to do something with bump etc. but what ever i do nothing look good...

I did a little searching around the forum and found a topic where are user named Dave Black posted some really nice renders...

I used a falloff material to create this, using the objects Z, so where ever there are horizontal areas, thats where the snow will pile up, just like real life, and used a rocky texture for the bottom material...

You should pay attention to creating realistic materials.. carefully balance the specular, bump and all the other caracteristics of a material.

I know this was a general answer,.. but that's how it goes with general questions :)

To create a non-flat material, you should dig into bump mapping and also displacement mapping(mantal ray has a fairly good support for this)
