View Full Version : 70's disco / pulp fiction stylish comic concepts
CRV/V\B 10-21-2002, 12:22 PM hello everybody,
i'm currently in that mood of drawing (comic) images in some 70's disco / "pulp fiction" style. i'd like to see others' interpretations of that theme - well, also to collect new inspiration by others' interpretations and styles.
here's my attempt (of course critiques, hints etc. are welcome)...

Duuuuuude
Looks great! The style you've got really captures the ultra-cool (and slightly greasy) feel of the 70's pulp fiction style! It's a bit flippant and it'll be great for doing a funny take on the genre. Verah  cool.

thanks.
i think i'm gonna do some more of them with chicas, more guns and maybe with that nasty-austin-powers-teeth-problem ... well, since i cannot get anything else drawn than this seventies thing at the moment...

 I figure you'd do well to think of anything cliche about the 70's and run with it. Big cars, big hair... a lot of big things really. But yeah, more drawings will help you figure out what to do with it, I'm sure.

argh. can't draw cars at all, but maybe i should use some photos of our good old gdr cars from the seventies - and well, up to the late nineties - which usually weren't more than boxes on wheels made of some sort of paperlike material - you ever seen those? they'd be great reference for comic styled cars ... but anything else than - how did you call it ..g.r.e.a.s.y..

I *hate* drawing cars, or other vehicles. Architecture i don't much enjoy either... i don't have the patience. But if you want to do pulp fiction, you're gonna have to have at least one car. Find one you like and stick to that one, maybe.

Looks very good! I like the shadows.. the ultra-smoothed and curvy style you're using really suits the genre. Then agian, i'm not sure what you're going for! It'll be good for comedy and action.. a pretty light take on things. That works well for what you're doing though ^_^

well, initially ... as i said the first pic was out of that kind of mood, but it developed together with the following images into some kind of character concepts for larger images (not really comics with a whole background story, because of the lack of patience for those thing ... rather single pictures composing of those characters etc.)
nargh... whatever, this is my try of one of those cars

Lookin sharp! That's the kind of car I was thinking of. There are two things I can advise about it though.... it needs more detail, especially on the front. More detail on the grille, more chrome. . . it's tedious work but i think it'll really help. Also, from a colour aspect, the metal looks a bit washed. I don't know if that's what you were going for, but i think it needs more contrast... the dark areas should be a lot darker. Metal is tough to colour, though. Still, lookin good!

well i also thought of it as kind of concept for something more detailed. i made it without any kind of reference (i never saw one of these "strassen-kreuzer" [engl. sth like 'street-battleships'] in reality, and those german cars from that time look either ridiculous or ugly, or in most cases both). i had to draw it at least that far not have lost fun doing it until i next get the time to spend on it - btw thanks for the comments without them i would have lost the joy to do that, already ...
(damn didn't touched drawing coal or something else for nearly a week)

Oh! well, then , your land-battleship looks great, if it's a concept! For some reason looking at I think it needs a big set of bull horns strapped to the hood, or something stupid. You've got the stereotypical 1970s rolling boat pretty well (I can't believe they made those things) . . . just remember.. plush velvet interior. No kidding.

< imagine a nearly 2m tall one 30000km away rolling on the floor while laughing thinking of pink plush interior in his vw :-D >

I can imagine ^_- A friend of mine had a car like this... honest to god, plush velvet interior. He didn't have it for long, thank goodness

as i said already the peaple are really cool, but the car needs work, even when your concentration is not really focused on the car,but should be cool ...
will search for references to show ya tomorrow (i said it yesterday but forgot it today!)
