How can I create a new face in wings3d?

That really depends on what you are trying to do..
You can create a new face by connecting two edges of an existing face for example.

Wings3D is a subdivision modeller: most everything you do involves subdividing existing edges/faces along the lines of this concept: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subdivision_surface
At first it seems annoying and restrictive but you'll quickly find that it is a lot more intuitive to use the tools in the way that wings provides them..

you can't create just create a face. You have to create a primitive and then model from that, as far as I know. You also can't do edge by edge modeling in wings very intuitively.

I've always wondered, is this something that can be changed, or is it just impossible, given the way wings was coded?
Adding proper edge extrusions to wings would make it just perfect.

Its not possible with the data structure that wings3d uses, which is winged-edge. It requires all mesh's to be closed.
