Hi,

I'm working on a commercial requiring DOF and Motion Blur, however cheats don't work on this one. I'm using transparencies. MAX apperently disables it's multi-pass DOF when you turn on object motion blur, but renders image mo-blur fine. am I doing something wrong? are there any other solutions?

Thanks

Well, you could use an external renderer like Final Render. If that's not an option, you could add the DOF in post using something like premiere and the z-buffer from your animation. Or, you could render one animation without your moving objects, just with the DOF. And then a second animation with just the moving objects and the motion blur without DOF. And then composite the two together... of course, this wouldn't really work if one of your moving objects entered in and out of the DOF range...

DOF is often best done in post processing, rendering the objects in the foreground separate from the background and then blurred in the comp.

Well to render dof inside or outside (Combustion - Afx) of Max si the exact same thing.

The problem is, in all case the Z buffer is used and Zbuffer doesn't support transparency.

The other problem is about making post process blur FX.
It's limited to low quality by its way to work.

How could the 3d process know how to blur something in the pic and mix it with something sharp ? It doesn't so, it blur everything.

The only serious solution is to render dof other renderer like Brazil...

i have tried frischluft lenscare and it had excellent results, far better than most 2d dof x buffer based solutions...no glitches, or areas where it fails between sharp and blurred objects....the only problem i would think is you would surely ideally like to mo-blur after the DoF...not before?

Frischluft lenscare rocks! I have been using it for a while, but it only works on scenes with solid geometry.

Brazil is the best 3D DOF I've seen, but Brazil doesn't have Object Motion Blur.

This is my dilema, I need 3D DOF and object Motion Blur and MAX only gives me one or the other.

Thanks for all the input guys

you mean max camera DOF + object image motion blur (that can suports transparency as well) don't work together?!
strange...i should try!
