Wow, thats quite a first pic to post. Its got a very industril feel to it, plus it also reminds me of a castle with the outer wall, but sadly, no moat. Does this place have windows?

thanks everyone :)
I'm back working on this picture (after a completely unecessary break of a few days) - new renders coming up - I'm rushing to complete this by the end of the challenge :)

That looks very cool! Wow! But I'm a little confuse about the scale. Is this a whole city, or just one building?
I'd love to see more details, doors, wiring, rivets, etc. to give it a sense of how big it is.

Reminds me of Blade Runner - very cool model - go on

Thanks everyone for the advice !
To answer pearson's question - yes, this thing's supposed to be big - 40 stories high, at least - it's not an entire city, just a really colossal building ...
Update :
Added even more geometric detail - flying cars, windows, (I was thinking of adding a moat/cliff to surround the building, but this POV just doesn't allow it :( ). Changed the lighting too - it's nothing final yet, though.

keep the suggestions and criticisms coming.

Awesome! Those tiny trees really drive home the massive scale!

i hope you'll finish this stuff at time because it's great:)
Maybe you can start to add texture or model stuff around this bulding (it's really looks as a sort of little town as they built in middle ages).
i'll check for an update
go on

thanks everyone :)
I've really glad I've achieved the gothic/medieval/sci-fi feel here - that's what I was really aiming for. I'm starting the texturing right now ... I'll post another progress pic as soon as there's something to show.
I have been considering adding a path to the door too, but I decided against it - the entrance here's quite far from any focal point in the picture - it'd probably lead the eye in the wrong direction. Thanks for the advice anyway.
To the moderators : I was wondering if it would be legal for me to submit 2 entries - some old work, really (it's not that old, it's just another post-apocalyptic piece I've completed a week or so before this competition begin) ,,, a second entry, or something with that effect. Just wondering :)

Looking sweet! Right now the reds look like blood, not rust. If you wanted rust, I'd suggest adding more orange, and a little less saturation/darker.
I'm getting banding on the image (there's a halo around the ship and the building)...did you compress it really hard? Please post a bigger, less compressed version! Please? :D

man.. you really want to make me enter the challenge. top-notch work.
maybe you could up the contrast, its kinda hard to see some details.
I made a sketch, but didnt have time left to finish it and make it 3D :(

Here's it with a sky.
http://alshaheen.net/artists/dogyears/sunset.jpg
Looks great!
Perhaps you could set it to a nigth scene with searching-spotlights and alarmlights or something like that. Also add some DOF; some bigger blured rocks in the front.
