View Full Version : Looking for gun wireframes

Hey guys, I wanted to try modeling a gun. After a few failed attempts I think I need some references. I was wondering if you guys could post wireframes of some of your old gun models if you wouldnt mind.
Low and High Poly appreciated.
Please explain a little about the process you took.
This would be a big help.

That website is really cool but I was looking for wireframes.
I'm kind of confused on some issues, such as does a clip get modeled seperately than the gun, and issues with topology in general so I was hopeing to do some research on models already created.

(http://users.skynet.be/reinhart/pizza3d/compclay.jpg) This was modeled for an animation, not a game, so polycount is high, but that doesn't change the modeling process.
I usually start with the barrel and go from there, it's easier especially on this gun, should be obvious. Extrude polys, move and target weld vertexes, lots of connect and cut, the usual.
I don't think this will help you though, topology is different on every gun. Maybe you should post the gun you want to model.

Is your gun made out of one mesh? A lot of people say this is important but your gun looks great and as I look at the wireframe it doesnt seem to be one mesh. For example the screwes where you hold the gun are a cylinder that goes straight through it. Also those 3 little bumps above the trigger on the gun standing up.
I'm still noob and would probably have modeled that all into my mesh which would just clutter it with unnecesary polys.
Do you have a render of the most basic for of your gun with out the bells and whistles, such as the screws and switches?

Well like I said I modeled it for animation purposes, not for a game. I could've easily modeled it in the mesh though, but this was faster :)
Those screws and buttons are the only 'bells and whistles' so it would be quite the same wire without them :p
