Great work with the animation which is certainly fluid and good show of spontaneous antics by the character that made watching it a delight. Well done!

OMG! that's the best opening I've ever seen to a movie! That brief case is ****ING FUNNY SHIT! HAHAHAHAHA. I thought the ending was weak and the red girls voice was lame.
Nice though!

Great work guys. I really like this one. That briefcase scene is freaking hilarious, it was totally unexpected. The animation was nice and solid all the way through and the lighting was superb.

We really liked the idea of starting the film off with a shot of the "Employee of the Month" plaque with Phil's (green guy) picture, and ending it with Watson's (blue guy) picture--but, we also really liked the idea that everyone in the company works for a giant moth. Moth's like light. So the whole time you're wondering why Watson (the blue guy) is trying to come up with new ideas but really they're just working to fulfill some selfish moth's desire for more light. In order to incorporate both these ideas we decided to just tell the story then show the credits, and have the moth scene as a bonus after the credits.
If one thing in the film needs to be more clear it's deffinately that last scene. Some people get it, some people don't. But the ones who do seem to find it extra amusing!
Thanks for watching. Any ideas on how to make that last shot with the moth more clear?

now i understood :)
i dono how to improve last scene with the moth...but i think it will be better if moth will return to his room without this beating a bulb with head.
Sorry for my english.
Thanks again for this funny video.

I think that adds a bit of character though to the scene. As with a moth, they're just simple minded insects who are always bound to fly into and around lights, hence the beating of the head against the bulb :)

Awesome ! one of the best character animation shorts in a long time !
My favorite is the boss at the end, Bizarre, a great caricature of the office. And the green dude licking his idea. Needs to be on the front page.

I love the concept behind this animation and how we can all relate to that blue guy.... Sometimes you wish it were you who got all the great ideas, but hey, what's the harm in stealing someone elses http://www.cgtalk.com/images/icons/icon10.gif. Love the ending, THIS SHOULD BE ON THE FRONT PAGE http://www.cgtalk.com/images/icons/icon13.gif

ive got to admit i thought the end bit with the moth was a bit pointless ... but apart from that i thought most of the animation was pretty tight, and i wanted to watch until the end !

I like this animation very much. First because of its original idea, second because of it's design and at the end of its animation. Very good work in overall. 3 or 4 people working on this is a big accomplishment. It is rar that people function well in groups when money is not involved. You must very self motivated and talented people.
Congratulation to team work and to the good result.

Thanks Herbert! Glad you enjoyed it. It is always rewarding to work in groups, especially since the three of us get along so well. Thanks again!
Congratulations Kevin, Emil, and Matt on this awesome short! :applause: Great idea, characters, animation, and lighting. Smart and entertaining.
Well worth the download! Let's see it on the front page! :wip:
Being an Aussie, I knew exactly what that moth was doing... well at least where we live 100s helplessly bash their heads against the bulbs at our house everyday. Cracked me up... He came across very selfish and i loved how he ducks into his office to have it ALL TO HIMSELF.. classic.
Overall I think the animation is supurb. I'd put the credits at the end and let the moth be the punch line personally.
Also I really loved his personality as he first walks in... careless and grumpy he reads very well. Love how he just smashes his briefcase across the desk etc... very cool.
The sound production needs some work and why did you choose not to use motion blur?
In short fantastic idea, and brilliantly executed. 5 stars. Congrats

Tagi,
Thanks for the compliments, so glad you enjoyed it, especially the moth scene! it was lots of fun to make. I agree the sound production is probably the weakest of the whole film, but our main focus is on animation. So as for the sound we did the best we could with the resources we had. As far as motion blur goes, render times were through the roof which made it impossible for us to reach our deadline. Thanks for your comments!

I'm sorry...but I absolutely LOVED this little film!
The part where the guy walks by saying "oh boy oh boy oh boy" had me and my brother completely laughing out loud! We've watched it sooo many times over again...
And the part after the credits with the moth was brilliant! A perfect end to your great little movie.
Congratulations on completing this!
5 stars from me.

Great short! I understood the ending, but I would take out the head beating. Insects might do that, but the creatures in this short behave like humans. So you have the blue guy smashing his head, he looks desperate and frustrated. So when seeing the moth banging his head I read it as something negative. Keep the bellly rubbing, that was clearer.
I liked that the credits were that short. In our fast paced internet times people click away very easily. Make the credits longer and people won't bother reading them and miss the ending.
I LOVE the suitcase smashing (great sounds on that part too; love the sound when the blue guy touches the small lightbulb for the first time). But I didn't like the sound of the red guy (oh boy oh boy; came across as almost worried, not happy or proud that he has this big idea; maybe humming a happy song would read better).
The attentiion to detail is awesome (love it that even the clock is shaped like a light bulb). But if you introduce that much detail, I would add one thing. When the blue guy trashed his cubicle and then steps over everything and onto the filer, the thing doesn't move. Some movement or a little bending of the metal would be appropriate. And you know that sound when you step on something like that, kinda like a "tong", metallic thingie sound, that would be sweet.
Ok, enough of my rambling. Congrats on finishing it!

Hey,
first of all, great short film! I know the amount of work it takes to finish a short. Just finished one by myself and posted it (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=253874).
I have to disagree with jeandenis. Especially the banging of the moths head against the light (including sound, plus rubbing) was the funniest aspect of the whole film for me.
Because of this - and thats the only thing I would change - I would place the credits after the moth scene and not before. Maybe someone could miss this funny ending (and the real reason for the need of the "ideas") cause he thinks the film is over.
Again, really like your short
-Peter-
I really enjoyed this short, great work. The funny thing is one of my favorite parts is the little green guy licking his light bulb thinking no one is watching. Then when he turns with that (great) grin on his face as the main character runs by with the stolen idea. I also liked that there was barely any use of dialog but you knew exactly what was going on. Really entertaining, I enjoyed it I will save it to watch again, Great work. I dont use Icons but for you guys here is a thumbs up!

Only thing: I couldn´t watch it through the 10secclub´s links neither through the one you posted here (they got stuck halfway across). I had to download it through emilbidiuc (http://cgtalk.com/member.php?u=40400) vbmenu_register("postmenu_2413931", true); ´s mirror.

Excellent short. It totally nails one of the most elusive qualities in any film - it's entertaining! The sense of humor is different and sooo refreshing. It's not just over the top silliness. The subtlety of the moth joke is fantastic and cracks me up over and over again. And it certainly doesn't hurt that the animation is dynamic and believable.
Student films usually suffer because people try to bite off more than they can chew in just a few months. I know I did. Motion blur? I didn't miss it much. You've got simple, but obviously very functional characters and probably had a decent chunk of production time to actually animate, though I know you two can animate pretty fast. I assume Matt's rigging scripts sped things up quite a bit too. Great example of how to do a group/student project the right way.

Hey I really liked this animation, I thought the motion was particularly effective. The only thing is that the video kept crashing bout 1min28secs through, though I just reloaded it after that point.
Very Funny.
