View Full Version : Has anyone tried Maya on a 64MB Fire GL V3100?
dotTom 06-23-2005, 07:10 PM Has anyone used Maya in anger on a 64MB Fire GL V3100? It's just that this the GPU in the DELL Precision M20. I have a spare Maya 6 licence that I'd like to put on a laptop (so I can take Maya around with me). I really want a portable laptop as opposed to a "desktop replacement" (read: spine wrecker). So I was wondering if this system really worked? I'd be putting 2GB of RAM in it. Yes, I know it's on Alias's "certified" hardware list, but 64MB seems very little.
My main Maya box is a dual 3.6GHz Xeon with a 256MB X800 XT in it, which seems more reasonable for Maya. Is the 'M20 really going to cut it for "light" work?

Until recently I was running Maya on a 64 MB Ati Radeon, and it ran fine except for a few small graphics problems, so I think you should really be fine with your card. Hope that helps. :)

Hmm, cool. Well the V3100 is certified so maybe any issue you encountered where down to the driver software for your Radeon?!? Anyway, this sounds positive, I'll wait another day and see if anyone has any serious problems, but it looks like I'll get the Precision M20. Like I said this is not my primary Maya box, it's strictly for working away from home.

A friend of mine just bought it. Maybe I can try it out for you.
