I'm always fighting the falloff settings switching tools, so I was very happy to find out that the simple drag tool was available in Modo. I'm trying to use it instead of the move tool with element falloff but the drag tool seems to crash a lot here. Has anyone experienced the same ?

I cant recreate this error...

I picked a default sphere and used element falloff and the drag tool. I was able to move points and even while switching from sub d to normal polys.

Can you create this fault every time or is it more of a random thing?

Cheers.

It's a random thing, I can work with it for 10 minutes or more, use another tool ,activate it again and as soon as I touch a vertex...poof. Seems as if it's happening more in single perspective view than in 4 view mode, but I'm not sure.

Just to make sure, I'm talking about the Drag 3D Tool that not assigned to a key or menu item by default ( not the soft Drag Tool ). It's hidden under the Key Editor > Tools. With this tool you can only drag vertices no matter what setting you use.

That's why I like this one so much, I can't drag Polies or edges by accident as with the Move 3D with element falloff and I'm not affecting the falloff of other tool settings.

I was also very pleased to find a simple good old fashioned drag tool hidden away in the keyeditor. Element move was a little difficult to get used to for me.

However, I haven't had any problems with it.

Scratch that. I've just got me a repeatable crash with the drag tool. Thing is, it only happens with a certain model loaded. However, I'm doing the dragging on a fresh layer on a simple box. Very odd.

If I do exactly the same operation on the same box in a fresh modelling session it's fine with the drag tool.

Might see if I can submit this as a bug...

video drivers maybe?

I can't get it to crash.

Most of the stability issues I have tracked down from personal experience and browsing user problems on the forums seem to have mostly been driver related.

Glad you got it working.
