Bazooka Tooth 06-22-2005, 05:09 PM This is a trap barrel intended for a third person shooter (like Hunter: The Reckoning).
I used up a lot of the UV's for the polys facing up since that is where the camera would see them in the game I had in mind. That is why the top looks so much better. This was a lot of fun and I cant wait for the next challenge! Good luck to everyone!

nice idea for the heavy duty ammo crate, although the cardboard one wouldnt be much help as bullets would fly through it like knife through butter:P

Yeah, I think either a giant roll of bubble wrap or a big stack of towels might be worse. I think I am going to go with the bubble wrap because you can see throught it too! :applause:

Looking good! I can't wait to see what the inside is going to look like. I would also suggest that you put alot of decals on this. It's gonna look really cool. I'm not sure how many poly's you have now, but if you put some extras on the outside and add some weeds that would look nice too. Keep it up!

Thanks for the comments. I will wrap this one up and get on to more which is more exciting. I think the best part of it will be the interrior, the rest is really just a box.
My idea for a barrel is a trap that would be found in a horror game. It would be discuiesd as an oak barrel, but when the player gets close to it some mechanical arms in the mid section come out and "hug" the player while the top opens up, and a rounded spring loaded blade releases to decapiate them with a "kiss". The barrels will be lightly marked with "XOXO" to define the barrel contents.

you could make the box a light gray-brown with green stripes or spots over it, like the army has it. and more rusty at the edges.

I agree, I was going for sort of an oversized pellican case because seems like it wouild be more fitting for something delicate like a nuke. However a steel military box would look more interesting.

I think this idea is more better. :twisted: I dont know that my sketch really makes all that much sense. I had a lot of the modeling done before I realized I need a sketch. I need to finish up a little more of the model and then I can animate it.

I think the animation needs a bit of tweaking. I have a little more space with the tri's also. Well, on to texturing.

uah, that thing looks really scary and dangerous. :) seems to produce a lot of damage, if one is trapped by that thing!

:surprised Agree that thing looks like it will dice and slice you into many little Bits! You should go work for the army designing death Traps :) How you gonna texture, is it gonna have blood stains on the blades.

LOL, thanks. I am going for a dark brown wood with some metal bands "holding" it together. For the blades and spikes, I was thinking aobut the blood, it would look cooler I think. however since it is sort of a one time trap it really shouldnt have any blood on it yet. I think I want it to look like some nut case built it in his moms basement. So I will be trying to make it appear that the spikes are welded on and try to add a few things that you can find at the hardware store.

Thanks hanzo. I adjusted the spikes on the arms and now feel like it is close to done. I added sort of a fish hook feature to the first spike, just incase someone thinks they can get away from it. Update coming soon, and hopefully I finish it today.

Looks like a killer! I think the animation is really cool.
Maybe the blue lights from the slits dont fit very well with the medieval theme of the barrel. Just a thought.

Ok, I think I am done. Thanks Supervlieg! LOL, I have been using a tire track pattern for setting up my UV's and I just lighten in a color for different parts and how I want things shaded. I cant decide if I want to use blood or not... Well here is what I think I will use in my final entry:

My submission is in! I think I could have cut back even further on the tris, 1000 is a lot. However I did cut it from 852 to 814 by unifing the the mid section. With that much extra I thought about adding more to the model, but I didnt want to take away from anything on the UV.
