excuse me for my ignorance as i'm sure there must be an easy solution for the problems i'm having, but for the life of me i can't work it out.

i'm using the 30 day free trial of modo, and after learning the basics, i'm trying to customise the look of modo to best suit my xsi/zbrush background. as i've understood, any changes i make to the general layout of the program can be reset by selecting one of the default layers; that works fine. my issue is that when i try and play around with the key editor or the form editor, the changes i make are startingly permanent. so is there any way to reset those settings without having to delete the config file?

also, could someone explain or at least guide me to where i can learn about the "config save" "config import" and "config export" options do?

apologies if this is a stupid question but I tried to find solutions in the documentation and on this forum to no avail.

Config Export will allow you to export your Key Maps (hot keys) Forms (custom menu's) and Layouts... If you want to export more things, I suggest that you check out the configDicer.pl script that I wrote and posted on Vertexmonkey.com it will give you more options for things that you want to export.

The way that configs work in modo is when it loads up it looks at all of the configs in the RESRC directory, it then looks at the modo.cfg file and updates its settings, so if you create a .CFG file from either source and drop it into the RESRC directory it will always be loaded upon startup, if you alter the same settings in the modo.cfg file they will override the RESRC. You can also import any of these configs, which will make a reference to them in the modo.cfg file.

thankyou Dion! i'm really beginning to like modo, especially the tool pipe workflow and macros which are incredibly useful for repetitive tasks. I'd love to get a copy, I couldn't ever afford a standard copy but i think i could qualify for a "good student" pricing. btw, what is a 3.0 grade point average equivalent to as a percentage or percentile (i'm from australia)?

just a question about modelling, i'm creating a mechanical object which is vaguely cylindrical and has a series of bolts placed at intervals. I've designed the base object and the rivet that is placed on it, but i don't know what the best way to go about duplicating them along the object is. In xsi, i would highlight the edges i wanted on the main object, extract a curve and then duplicate the rivet object along the curve for however many copies i needed. How could I go about doing this in modo?

thanks

If the object is cylindrical you can use the radial array but if you need a custom shape use the curve clone tool. That should do the trick.
