The whole concept is somewhat collage-like, it's just an assembly of staged elements. I was thinking more in terms of pure 2d composition than real 3d relations. When first few passes came out of renderer the comp looked too "3d". So I did some additional light tweaks and paint on top of it to make it more "flat".

These are great. I love the details. The colours, the patterns, lighting and renders are superb.

They remind me of some drawings Ronald Searle did a few years ago. He published a book of bizarre cats which was incredibly funny (if you like cats!)

I didn't know of Searle cat drawings - they are very entertaining, although I'm not really a cat lover. In fact I pretty much dislike cats. The cat theme just happened for unknown reasons. :)

I think that cats are fat because they are loved and full with emotions. Every time when they get a kiss they also get a pound. Everybody shoud adopt one C-Cat and take care of.
Without emotions there are no good artwork. This is good artwork!!

Monkey FunkR: I can undertand your opinion. The context is not the one you typically expect of 3d gallery images. So the average consumer of 3d art could be drawn back a bit.

Maybe the paws seem too "aligned" and he seems to balance the pasta on his left front paw instead of holding it. The mat would benefit from some sculpted bulges/flowing wrinkles, looks a bit stiff. But the picture holds its own.

The cat says "I gotta cut down on those carbs!" haha :)

Some of the profile curves used for building gometry were imported into maya directly from the ai concept sketch.
