View Full Version : Dark Raven Woman
csgirl 06-21-2005, 07:12 AM Okay, here goes: my first cgtalk WIP. Based of one of my daily sketches, this started as a practice in using Open Canvas. The background was painted entirely in OpenCanvas 1.1. I've moved to Photshop now to do the woman. I have just begun to block in the shapes and shadows on the woman. The shadows on her back will be much much darker in the end, but I'm not there yet. Any glaring problems so far?

Hey this is looking really nice , I really like how you have the light breaking through the clouds. cant wait to see the final result. Good attention to detail on the water where the light hits the water.

Looks like a good start.
Hey just a thought, but maybe you want to make the bats flly up to the foreground in the bottom-right quarter of the page. That would make the image more dynamic.
Keep it up looking forward to the next wip.

K, worked on it some more this evening. Started working on the shading on the woman, added some rocks, and the little ship. Just started on the face, so that is still rough.

hmmm I dont know if I like those rocks , they have an organic look to them but they dont seem like they would be formed by nature. I was thinking it would be nice if you had little designs or maybe figures in the rocks as if maybe thats her place to relax and create. Her place of solitude where no one else can go :)

Left to work on:
Clouds...now that the woman is more refined, they are lacking in detail
Rocks...I think I might make them into strange statue looking things
Water...need to bring the detail up in the water some what.
Oh, ya, and the bats...Need to paint them.

wow i just saw your WIP its going to be amazing! love the color, although i prefer the composition how you had it first where she is looking to the left... seems more vulnerable, which i think amplifies and adds an important aspect to the dark rage idea, it adds the depth and romance that is female rage :scream: i like the style you've chosen also.
watching this one

Thanks so much! I hope it turns out well.
Okay, I axed the rocks. Bye bye rocks.
Worked on the details of the clouds and water.
The dots are place holders for the bats, i'm working out where I want to put them.

And I thought I would put up a detail of her so you can see her better.

Well, this is very nice. I like the composition and idea, and so far the execution is great. I only have one small, itsy little crit, and that is that her visible arm is far to thick. Just thin that down a bit and her anatomy will be wonder.
Anyways, I really like the reb/black color scheme you have going here. I can't wait to see more updates! Good luck!

Hi,
nice colors, I like the first idea better, the sky is more natural,
the light coming through the clouds is pretty cool, also think that the right shoulder is out of place, and the countor is to sharp, that all I can see wrong,
I think if you smooth out the edges, of the girl, kind of blend them with the background, that would help,
work on the arms,
I really Imean really like those colors, creates very neat look,

Spent some more time on it. Fixed the back and shoulder, worked on the ocean and sky. And I've FINALLY started on the bats.

that looks much better, she blends well with the rest, shoulder is much better, but I think is still a little of, maybe it's the light but there is something wrong, and I just noticed shoulder blades are to long, and overall she is pretty tall or proportions are not right, that maybe cose blanket is covering part of her,
loose those clouds,
the idea is very cool, but it needs work, like I said the colors are interesting
:p
