View Full Version : Huge problem with bones!!!

Hey there
We are animating a character here at work with LightWave 7, and are having an extremely frustrating problem:
The bones keep popping out of the mesh when it is animated. The character has been set up properly - this just shouldn't be happening!
Anyone know what the hell is wrong????!!!

Try to set the subdivision order to "after bones".
If that doesn't work post a few screenshot (2 or 3 frames) so we get a better idea of what's going on

actually we suspect it may just be an OpenGL thing now - we haven't had time to render it just yet. But thanks anyway.

erm...
okay we are having the problem when we render too.
And it's not the subdivision order, and it's not the weight maps (they are set up properly).
It's just that the bones keep popping out of the mesh for no apparent reason.
ANY IDEAS???????

have you added/subtracted any bones to the rig along the way? try re-resting the bones maybe

Is this the first time you've rigged and animated a character in Lightwave? It almost sounds like you've either forgot to set the bones position within the mesh properly when you created the skeletal rig or you've accidentally set a key on a bone's translated x,y,z position.
