View Full Version : PA Challenge - Character - Werner
Werner 02-18-2002, 01:02 PM Hi, I decided to jump in and join the challenge. I don't have a scanner so, showing you the concept sketches are a bit off a problem. I'm still a long way from done...I'm using my old girl model for the profile of the character. I know this might seam as cheating but you'll barely see her once all her gear are finished. http://ziemdesign.f2g.net/images/extra/milla.jpg

very nice work!
Clean and detailed...
only one critic: She seems too much "classic" for me...
Give her some personnality
I know it's just a start,so give her an innovative hairstyle...
Give her some "Default"...
have you imagined a concept...Who is she? What's her aim?
It's a great work anyway!

Here is another quick update. I didn’t like the goggles much, so I decided to redo that area.

My girlfriend want to kill me for spending way to much time in front of my pc.
really good model ,i love the clothe and face(helmet and gas)pretty cool ,my girlfriend also think that i spend to much time in my pc  :D
My pc has become my girlfriend. Never argues, never fights, never leaves me, I see her every day, she tells me what I want to hear, and shows me what I want to see....
Man, I need to unplug...:)
Seriously though,
Love the model Werner. Very cool design AND well executed.
My only crit would be the eyepiece... IMHO she looks great without it... or maybe make it 'lighter' (not as bulky, more feminine)

I love the folds in the fabric; very real! The mask reminds me of Leia in Jaba's Palace, when she tried to rescue Han.

Gabe: thanks! yeah I get the pissed off look as soon as I move closer to the pc. I guess it's because I had to work lat on my previous project as well.
AJE: Man, sounds great, but I would not trade my girlfriend for a pc...it's must be bad without a pc, but the pencil still rules. :p As for the eye peace...it will balance out better, once all the body gear are finished.
pabbloz: Cool man, coming from you, I'll take that as a big complement. I just Love your work. Yeah, I don't think she will be able to withstand cold weather with that little clothing, so I was thinking more in the line of atomic desert wasteland. :p
pearson: Thanks pearson! I might have to work less on the detail if I want to finish her in time.

Once the modeling is done, I'll put her in the right setting.

OHhoho! This is great! I love the boots! The gauntlet is sweet too. Looks like a rip from Quake 3. :) Stylisticly, I mean...
Keep it up!

I'd have to agree with howard day
quake 3 was the first impression that I got from the design
great modeling btw.
Werner

Thanks Howard Day and psumo!
yeah it does kinda have a Quake feel to it. :p
I haven't touched to textures to much...will dirty her up once all the modeling is done.

I think she might need a bit of muscle in the biceps and slightly bigger hands.

Nice modelling work. I have been checking out this forum for the last few days and found some really cool looking models.
One thing that does puzzle me is why the vast mojority of character models have face masks with pipes and stuff? I am not trying to offend anyone with that statement, as I think there are some fine models appearing. I would just like to see more deviation from the mask/pipe theme.
Possibly I'm outta line? If so, I apologise as I don't mean to be. Maybe the general look of things is because people are creating a post-apocalyptic feel? I guess the face mask and pipe thing is the obvious choice to portray that?
Anyway, I look forward to seeing more cool works. There's a great deal of talent out there.

Okay, I just back-tracked and read the rules for the challenge. It kind of explains that the reason for the mask and pipes IS to create a post-apocalyptic style.
Forget everything I said! :p
Can I ask... are the majority of images posted created with Lightwave and Max?

a little update...I'm working on her weapon at the moment. I tried to put her in a better environment but the render time was way to high. :(
lildragon, could you get the file I've sent you, to work?

Thanks oozeballz!
The hands are the right size...it's the camera angle that is causing this. It was a quick camera setup :p

Thanks man...yeah, the light was a bit over saturated with no shadows to keep render time to a minimum...will be fixed for the final render. :D
Well, I'm working on her weapon at he moment. Once that is done, I'll work on her textures and come up with the final image.

I found the problem with the small hands. Once I rotate the hands, they scale down...don't know why though???
Has anyone out there have this problem before? The fingers are linked to the hand, which in turn are linked to a smaller disk shape. When I rotate the disk shape all the fingers and the hand scale and taper at the same time. This is bizarre!

Sometimes resting the X-Forms helps

Yeah, I had a quick read yesterday and tried the X-Form reset under the utilities tab. It worked, but all the objects rotated in new directions. I'll fix that once I get time...and then I need to finish her weapon.
