FabioMSilva 06-20-2005, 01:36 AM long thread name, short animation:D
well, i'm finding that facial animation is really fun to do:), but i still havent got the hang of lipsync. please see the animation and tell something about it.
oh yeah the translation:
"Please forget about everything."
"I just wanted to be close to you Kouta."

she is looking at her loved one, happy to be close to him, but at the same time really sad and without knowing what to do, since she killed his family(don't look at me, i didnt wrote the script lol).
so thats what i wanted to portrait. happiness, uneasyness and a bit of sadness, and the revelation that she really wants to be at his side.
hope u can help me improve this :)
thanx.

Hello;
This is not to bad for a start, however the face seems to have no emotion what so ever. I did not get any feeling she was trying to portray. The lip syncing is not to bad, there are a couple spots that need work. All in all it is good just needs some spit n polish.
Good job thus far though.
Oh one last thing, I would HIGHLY recommend you invest in a book called "STOP STARING - Facial Modeling & Animation Done Right" by Jason Osipa. This book is a MUST have for any animators and let me tell you, once you have gone though the book, your models will really come to life. It was written with maya in mind but fully works in other modeling apps.

Best of luck I can't wait to see more.

i definetly agree that stop staring is a good investment for any animator, and for some modelers to :). as far as your animation goes, there is no emotion from her at all, so it's really hard to judge much. the lip synching is not bad for a start, but try not to have the mouth move for every sylable, it makes the person seem like they have some kind of flappy jaw syndrome. try compacting syllables down and figure out where it's more appropriate for the mouth to make a major motion. for example the words "eventual successor" lip synched to a character would end up something along the lines of "vental sessor".
less is more :).
nice start man, keep at it

hey guys:)
i had already that book on my wishlist, but i was a bit afraid of it, since the reviews were not very clear. after your guys comments i made my mind and bought it. I havent read it all but i think my animation of her speaking as improved a Lot :). I also bought [digital] character animation volume2(i dont have volume1 yet), and it also taught me some stuff about facial animation. enough chat here's the result:

i think the lip sync and facial emotion have improved a lot, she's looking much more alive now. the only drawback is that right now she is kinda too much happy, when she's saying "please forget about everything)
but i'll let u guys judge the results :)
cheers

Hello;
It is getting there. You are right though she is a little too happy at the end, but that is a simple fix. As for the facial emotion, it has improved quite a bit since the first animation, however try to add more emotion in the eyes, this is where the animation seems to fall short.
The lip syncing is much better. You do not need to over complicate the mouth animations but sometimes you have to seperate the words more. Use a mirror and say the what your model will be saying, watch how your mouth moves, again do not over complicate, look at how your mouth moves in the areas NEEDED in order to see the word visually. Jaw = Open or Closed Lips = - Shut 0 Open as in "Ahh" o Slightly open as in "Oh" This is a simple trick but it helps you animate when your visually seeing your mouth moving, do not SOUND OUT the word as that causes you to over pronounce sections of the word. Just look in the mirror and speak like you normally do.
Over all the animation is coming along rather nice. I am looking forward to seeing more.
Take care.

something else you can do other than using a mirror, is get your hands on a video camera and record yourself acting this out then watch it back on your computer or tv.
