View Full Version : Which 64-bit setup should I get?
SkyZero 06-19-2005, 12:09 AM I've come across a deal where I have to choose between 2 bundles:
($250)
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ CPU
Asus A8N-E Socket 939
($500)
2 AMD Opteron 246 CPUs
Tyan Thunder K8SD Pro
I'm going to be running Maya 6.5 and I plan on keeping this system for awhile. Which one would you go for? I already have 2.5 GBs of RAM I can gut from my existing system. I'd have to buy a new video card which is fine.
Has anybody tried to run Maya in the 64-bit edition of windows xp? What were your experiences? Would it be better for me to stay with the regular 32-bit Windows XP Pro?
Any help is appreciated!

Go for the dual setup if you think the money's worth it - you can always put a 32-bit OS on it if the 64-bit one doesn't work out.

I hate to do this to ya, but if you haven't "reserved" your order already via credit card, you can consider that deal dead. Apparently Asus and Tyan is having difficulty with the demand at the shows. Reports from earlier shows says more people never got their bundles unless they "reserved" it at the web site way early.

I just checked out the online site to check the status of the bundles and they are completely sold out, as suggested by Shogmaster. How depressing...
Ah well, life goes on!
Thanks for the replies!
