Hi all,
I'm a long time lurker, and an amateur hobbist modeler. I felt like stepping out of the shadows and contribute something.
Here is just a progression of a female face that I'm currently working on. Hopefully in the next few weeks I will also have the body fleshed out.
Just one note, this thread is not a tutorial. This series of screenshot just gives an insight into my workflow, just incase anyone is interested.
I decided to make this model all from quads. I have noticed from my previous WIPs that tris produces pinches in the mesh, viewed from some angles.
If you think it needs some critique, please feel free to express yourself. All constructive critiques that help impove my art are appreciated.
I know I have learned one thing from this exercise. Good reference photographs/materials is invaluable. Looking at a beautiful face is no pain also.
1. Fleshing out the major loops, and landmarks. Eye are worked on first, mouth, then the nose, and place some panels between the major loops just to make it feel solid.

2. Mirror the right side, and bridge between the main loops. I work the poly on all angles, pushing vertices until they look right.

3. Close all loops, and detail the loops around the eyes. Apply Meshsmooth on the poly.

4. I define the chin, cheekbone and forehead.

5. Here I create the eyeballs, and adjust the eye sockets to fit the eyeballs. I redefine the upper eyelids, and fill in the nasal cavity.

6. I create the ear separately. It is easier to rotate and view the ear when it is not attach to the head. I also complete the back of the head, and put it a placeholder for the neck.

7. I detail the ear, and attach it to the head. I had to make adjustments to the poly, to accommonate the higher density ear mesh. This is where my current progress is at. I will try to update this thread with more progress shots thru out the coming weeks.

7a. Some shot as above, but from different angle.

7b. Another angle.
