View Full Version : Crawling Floor Pattern
nebba 02-18-2002, 08:55 AM What are some suggestions for cutting down on the crawling effect that I get when using a dot type floor pattern(terrazzo) during a walkthrough.
I am using Studio Viz and Max.
Thanks

there are two solutions i can sugest you.
first try to change the "filtering" in "the bitmap parameters" from "Pyramidal" to summed erea.
if it dosnt work, go to the root of the material, and open the Super sampling roll out, then swich on the "Enable sampler".
i hope it will solv your problem

And if those suggestions don't quite do the trick, look into changing the AA filter in the render options. It defaults to area, but you can get much smoother results from Catmull-Rom or Mitchell-Netravelli filtering. You may need to play with the settings to strike a balance of speed vs. quality, though, and it's easy to over-blur.
And if those great suggestions still don't work try reducing the contrast of that map in photoshop and/or reducing the map value (80%?) so that the shader ambient values (60% grey for ex) start to factor in.
