hi, i have 2 questions, pls

pls tell me, how can i create dust and how can i tranform that into a word...

like in the movie "The Mummy Returns".....sand transform into a face.....very fascinating effect....

i suggest - particle systems (using 'facing' particles) with materials applied.

tute: (these are for smoke but it's a start!)

this ones for steam, but again it's a start!

as far as creating shapes have a look at Sand Blaster from Digimation, i'm not sure but you may be able to do this without plugs.

Particle Studio from digimation. It's really good.

That's actually pretty easy to do in combustion. Or try RealFlow for max.

hmm... GRMac, combustion is for compositing, Real Flow is for fluids... how it can be done in them?

I'd recomend particle displacement or an advenced particle plugin like Thinking Particles or Sand Blaster...

Because combustion 2 has a better particle system than max, and effects such as dust morphing into text are well-suited to combustion's 2D particle system.

Also, RealFlow is not just for liquids, it's main purpose is to simulate realistic fluid behaviors, but you can do other kinds of particle simulations with it. Depending on the settings, you can create a dust-like simulation.

I'll agree with you about Real Flow because I only read about it, but I don't think that combustion's particles are better then max's.

Combustion don't have such a variety of modifiers how max do. And these particles are 2D. I think that combustion's particles are just a library of samples, without too many parameters to change...

The only particle system that we've brought for max and its great. We brought iit for the exact reason you want iot for. particles forming words etc. Works like a dream, though can be a little unstable.

I hear the developer of it is now working on something at discreet ... maybe a point release with a long awaited particle update ;)

Hell no, combustion's particle system puts max's default particles to shame. They are very customizable, as you have just as many parameters to adust as you do in max. The fact that they are 2D just makes them that much more suited for doing text effects.

Element, here's a tutorial I found on morphing smoke into text in combustion. I'm sure with a little tweaking you could get that smoke to look and behave like dust. Good luck.

Well i havent played with the particles in C* butr I know I've been doing alot of compositing that should only rerquire a 2d particle system. I've been doing it in AE and its particle playground has potential but is lacking in features. If c* can do more than that (Which Im told it can) there would be true value in a 2d compositing package.

Tired of jumping into max to set up a system that should eaisly be done in post.
