View Full Version : New CGTalker testing the waters!
Savant 10-19-2002, 05:04 AM Hi folks! I'm new to CGtalk, just shown the place a short while ago, and decided to jump in with some art that I finished a little while ago. I'm always on the lookout for criticism, so anything supplied would be muchly appreciated. Here's what I've got, additional comments below:

This was done with acrylics, pelikan ink and Pentel watercolours on watercolour paper. Whaddya think? I've always felt my pictures feel a little.. unfinished. Anything that could help me finish it up would be muchly appreciated ^_^

how is it that nobody couoold respond to this thread??
savant! i think you did an awesome job! the colors are very rich/.vibrant! the guy doesn't look anatomically correct, but perhaps that was intentional? but great job!

Thank you for replying ^_^ and thanks! the colours turned out okay.. my scanner is crap really, but for once they managed to get through without degrading too much. As for anatomical correctness... i'm not sure really! The actual setup for him was about ten minutes of drawing, after that I dove right to inks. What's wrong with his anatomy, other than some general proportion issues?

large head and stubby arms. but still looks nice. kind of stylized, you know?

My art usually ends up rather stylized these days, which I don't complain about too much. I guess I was subconsciously emphasizing the big barrel chest, eh? Thanks for pointing that out, though ^_^

i like your style (exotic for me, as my only contact with colors on paper is at art-school ... and in the beginning anything but voluntary).
that story at your homepage also seems interesting (think your drawing technique fits to its slightly surreal (- is that the word i searched for?! -) theme. unfortunately i did not have enough time yet to see it completely.
concerning that "anatomical problems": have you ever tried these 'dolls' (? - don't know) ... these little wooden (humanoid) puppets with movable joints? they seem expensive (at least good ones are, here in germany), but to me they give more relation to human moves and body-expression with natural proportions than any drawing book about anatomy i know.

Hey, thanks.. surreal is sort of what i'm going for. I've been trying to get a very spartan look the the art of that story...and, well, since I'm a very off-the-cuff sort of artist, less detail suits me just fine! Of course finding the right details to put in is just as much work. . .
As for the posing mannequins, i in fact have one, but has stand broke on me and I'm unable to find a replacement! I'll get another, but until then i've been using a mirror. I'm a lot cheaper than any other life model I know, after all ^_- But maybe i'll get ambitious and dig it back out to try again, if I can get a proper mount!
Thanks for the help ^_^
