Technical Art Director



Working as a liaison between the Artists and the Engineers, the Character Technical Art Director is comfortable working with both the art and technology of game graphics. This role requires a pro-active problem solver that has a strong sense of creativity and respect for aesthetics. The Technical Art Director takes creative direction from the Art Director and works with the lead TD’s to determine solutions for realizing the creative vision.



Needs to have a strong focus on Characters and a solid background in rigging.



Able to break a complex process down into functional steps that can be built/optimized/taught

Ability to analyze a pipeline/tool/process and identify inefficiencies and suggest improvements or alternative approaches to speed iteration or make the process less error prone

The ability to evaluate, comprehensively test, and contribute or drive new art processes then effectively teach those to the users.

The ability to get to the root problem and understand the difference between a user’s feature request and the users needs



An ability to understand the big picture of the pipeline and asks the right questions to identify upstream and down stream dependencies or implications of a change or use modification. These folks understand how all the pieces fit together.

Can make amazing art with less than others believe possible, while staying true to the original vision

Can document and answer the how to questions in many areas including those they may not have prior experience in.



Are trail blazers in that they are often the first to use new tech and are able to lead and inspire others by example.



It is beneficial to have familiarity with next gen technology, and need to be quick learners.



Are equally comfortable talking with all aspects of development and providing an interface role between the tech and the tools/processes that achieve the vision.

Able to produce workflows that reduce the amount of time it takes to for art/content developers to see their assets in game.
