For Immediate Release - June 17, 2005
KURV studios publishes “Get into ZBrush with Glen Southern”

KURV studios the leading publisher of video training for the visual effects industry releases their first video for Pixologic’s ZBrush, Get into ZBrush. KURV Studios is honored to be working with Glen Southern, well known professional 2D/3D and sculpture artists from Staffordshire UK.

ZBrush 2.0 is the latest release from Pixologic and continues to be a very individual piece of software. Designed to give an artist the freedom to sculpt high-frequency detail, all the while striving to make it as intuitive as possible. ZBrush has been adopted by major 3D Studios across the world and integrated into the production pipeline. Get Into ZBrush will take the artist on a tour of the ZBrush interface and explain how each tool can fit into their workflow. Using plain, well paced narrative Glen takes the viewer, panel by panel on an eye opening exploration. Part two then moves onto a project to model a 3D head from the innovative ZSpheres onto high polygon modeling, texturing using the native mapping modes and finally onto lighting and rendering the model. There is no other software on the market today that allows you to model organic models with polygons counts reaching the million mark and this video helps you to explore it fully.

The video is aimed at people new to ZBrush and the artist that simply wants to know more. As ZBrush has so many hidden depths this title helps to how and where ZBrush can be used in a modern graphic environment.

This video contains more than 9 hours of training and covers the following topcs.

Topics Covered:
Introduction to Workspace
Glen takes you through the ZBrush work flow, tools, and interface. This section of the DVD will give new ZBrush users an excellent foundation of knowledge on the software and even intermediate users a better handle on ZBrush's depth of tools.

This section of the DVD covers Alphas, Masks, Stencils, Focal Shift, Layers, and other Pixol Based Tools.

3D Modeling Basics
This section of the DVD goes into Freehand Sculpting, ZSpheres, Polyframes, Creases, Multi res levels, Polymesh, Displacement Maps, Morph Targets, MaskingMarkers, Edge Loops, Partial Mesh Visibility and more.

Modeling Project
This section of the DVD goes into more detail on modeling in ZBrush. This section covers, Adaptive Skin, Dividing Geometry, Detail High Res Mesh, Modifying Materials, UV Mapping and Texturing, Lighting and Environment Settings, and Rendering the Scene.

About Glen Southern:
Glen Southern - has made quite a name for himself in 3D, 2D, Painting, Design and Illustration. You would be hard to find a professional CGI site that does not have Glen's work on it somewhere. He has been a freelance CGI artist for 8 years working with LightWave 3D, ZBrush, Silo and other 2D/3D applications.

Glen has been worked closely with Pixologic for five years now and has been involved as a beta tester on all major versions. When Pixologic looks for amazing art work to promote news or new software releases often they contact Glen Southern. You will also find him very interactive with the 3D community on various forums and providing free training from his site and many others.

Glen works and lives in Staffordshire in the UK and spends most of his time modeling in 3D or Sculpting with Super Sculpey. You can frequently find him online and very willing to help others.

Get into ZBrush with Glen Southern can be purchased from KURV studios here http://www.kurvstudios.com/zbrush/, Safe Harbor, or soon on Amazon.com.

I'd like to make a really quick little statement here in regards to the 'customer service' of KURV Studios.

Having ordered this DVD myself, I was originally pleased with the promptness of everything. I placed the order, got an email the next day saying that my DVD had shipped and thought cool, should be here soon. I learned from my last experience of using the USPS shipping method to use Priority mail as it generally arrived at my desk within 5 business days no problem.

So here's the thing... the dvd shipped on the 26th...the equivalent of 2 weeks ago, USPS Priority... yet, there has since been no DVD. Now typically I wouldn't make a public post like this and would more prefer to take such things up with the company themselves but it seems that nobody wants to respond to emails either :)

As to not seem like the 'black sheep' here, a fellow workmate of mine ordered his Zbrush DVD back on June 21st and has STILL yet to receive it and is going through the same week long email tag I have been (email on a Monday, get a response on a Friday). This is unacceptable business and horrible customer service in my eyes. We have paid for a product and made sure that we followed up on our end, why can't KURV do the same?

I'd like to think that this DVD would be a good addition to the library, but my advice to those looking at this is simply to turn the other way and order the Gnomon DVD's. I have NEVER had a problem dealing with Gnomon, infact I generally get my DVD in about 3 days tops and if there are any problems I typically receive an email within less than an hour offering assistance.

That's just my $0.02 on all this.

M.E.L. I can say that I have not seen an email from you at all. I answer hundreds of emails per day and always do my best to check the spam folder to make sure I dont loose any there.

I havent heard from you, sorry.

We do our best to provide great customer service and always have... and get praising emails all the time about it.

I will email you at the address you used for the order now and see what we can do for you ASAP.

Interesting... I mean unless the packages are being laced with narcotics I can't foresee why customs would be an issue. Again, I've ordered DVD's through Gnomon on a Monday and it has been in my hands by Wednesday... timely, organized and everything. I'm not saying this is a 'bluff' on your part with the customs bit, but I have used USPS before for many shipments (cd's, dvd's and The Art of Rigging book) and never once have I had an issue with customs.

Cheers for the email, I had sent 2 others last week in regards to the situation as well but it's become apparent to me that you never got them.

I got mine in a week and I''m in Australia. I was impressed with the quality and professionalism of the presentation, well done KURV Studios. I got this DVD because I wanted to check ZBrush out before I decided if I would buy it, it's been a very worth while recce into a new peice of software - I'll certaininly look at getting more DVD's in the future.

Cheers

Martyn

I'm in Vancouver. I ordered that DVD from Kurv too and it arrived in a few days. I have, however had some DVD shipments stopped at the border for what seems like weeks. Wes at Kurv Studios is a great guy and has awesome customer service. I bet if your DVD hasn't arrived, it's an issue with Canada Customs, not Kurv.
