View Full Version : monitor question
serkan 06-17-2005, 06:53 AM Hi everybody,
I am in need of a 19" flat panel CRT monitor that i will be using for my 3D and design works.
Some could please direct me to a website where i can get an idea about monitors, benchmarks,etc...like a hardware compare site..
Or, if you have recently purchased one, could you tell me what it is and how it is working with 3D applications?
My budget is at most 250$
thanks a lot

It has regular reviews and maintains an 'A list'. I used to subscribe when I was a systems admin.

Don't get the Samsung. Apparently there's a bad batch out or something. I just got one and it was like I was seeing it through a screen. Long story. Here's what I posted on another forum:
I will never again buy anything from Circuit City...
I tried their other monitor out, same problem. They said it wasn't defective and they didn't wish I'd stop trying out monitors. Thing is, they had the exact same monitor on display and it was perfectly fine! I would have bought it, but someone had put a magnet too close and the effects were still there. They tried to pass that off as a regular thing, much like the grill problem. They said they're NOT defective and they did not appreciate me coming into the store to try out monitors. I returned the item with a 15% restocking fee.
They were by far the worst employees I've ever seen. The first lady went to the back to get the new one. She swung it off the dolly. Twice. Next, the guy tried getting the monitor out of the box. I suggested to him to turn the open end down and pull the box up (just like the pictures for retards on the box show). He looked at me like I kicked his mother. We got the monitor plugged in and the problem was almost worse on this one. Right next to it was the one on display that didn't have it. The lead tech lady came over and basically said Samsung was wrong, it's not defective, we don't want to help you any further. I got my money back on my debit card and tracked each of them down and killed them.
And now I'm in search for a new monitor.

wow man! i don't know what to say. They sure gave you a hard time huh ! :)
I was reading the customers feedbacks at newegg.com, about the monitors i have mentioned. Apparently, those customers were pretty much satisfied with what they purchased.Maybe you should try neweeg next time.
any idea about viewsonic?
what monitors do you have in your mind?
thanks

Honestly, I have no idea now. I'm even thinking everything from 17" LCD to the Dell 20.1" LCD ($464 with coupons).
I dunno. Now, I'll probably look at the other two you mentioned. They were on my list as well. I'm also considering a 17" LCD, then getting another on down the line (but I know that would a tough buy. PArents would say, but you already have oneeeee). And I would have ordered it off Newegg, but their's was $65 more, including shipping. I just wanna know why It's so hard for people to make a 19" LCD with 1600x1200 Resolution. Seriously...
So, yeah. We're in the same boat here. I just wasted $25 on the oar I dropped in the creek(the restocking fee).
If you ever find anything out or make a decision, be sure and let me know.

Welp, I went and done it. I got me a Dell 2001 FP for $464. I figure that the extra $200 from a 17" would be worth it. After all, I'm gonna be looking at this thing a LOT.
Can anyone give me more info/experiences with this monitor? I've read a lot, I'm just wondering if anyone has anything they just gotta say.

At home I have a NEC 930SB... Great great monitor, not sure about how much it is in dollars, but in british pounds it was £260 last year for me, probably much cheaper now, plus stuff is cheaper on your side of the pond too...
Good luck.
