Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the GPU has too much say in rendering (but I think it does work to help rendering). I believe it's the CPU/RAM that does most of the calculations for rendering. I think the GPU will speed other aspects of 3D, such as the speed of the viewports for modeling, etc..
Like most other renderers out there the CINEMA renderer only uses the CPU(s) not the GPU.
The graphicscard has only an influence on the editor displayspeed.

I also own a 500 and I'm pretty sure the ONLY app that utilizes the C shader language or whatever it's called is XSI. But like always I could be totally wrong.
