I'm still working on the headphones, but the recorder is all finished. The LCD is animated as well with spinning disc indicator, elapsed time, level meter, and scrolling titles :)

Once the 'phones are ready I'll put this all in a better environment. :)

Hey! We actually have the same MD! Even same color!
I very much like the LP option ;)

About the picture, Nicely done, but some details arent 100% correct... :p

Cool, you're the first person I know that has that color! :)

Wel I think details can only be 100% if I have some CAD plans something. I just tossed the thing on my scanner. For this model 98% is good enough for me. :D

Sorry for that. Didn't mean your model must be 100% accurate. That simply isn't possible, even with the best CADprogram out there. It was more by a matter of speaking. Obviously, you are aiming for the fotoreal look. So, what I meant is, by changing a few details, u'll make it look much more like the real thing. Everything look correct & nice to me only a few material details that aren't really right...

- The transparent thing on top of the display is not vissible enough (maybe this would be corrected when it's put in an enviroment & therefor relfects stuff, if u made it calculate reflections off course). Add more refraction too.

- The metal of the buttons is wrong. It should be a aluminium, what it looks like now is kanda chromisch. Make the reflections blurry, less reflection, more bump bumpmap. Looks like u added one but I'm not shure. Could be renderartifacts. if u haven't used one, do so (littlesized noise). Less specularety.

- Just one little detail. The blue print (MDLP) is a slightly to bright color (this one really is tiny huh :))

As u can see are these comments tiny little details, therefore I don't think your model is bad (I couldn't do better myself), only thing is u could make it even better. That's why u post it no, to receive crits and comments, so u can improve your techniques.

Wow, I think it is the first time I post so much text in one time! :hmm:

Also I'd like to know what program/renderer u used...

Do u mind sharing that model ??? :scream: (Nothing wrong with asking :p )

Yeah I've been thinking about mapping some subtle scratches & such to that to get it to stand out more. There actually are environment and reflection maps in there, you can see it in the metal reflections. I'll have to check why they don't show up in the clear display too.

Also, I have noticed from certain light angles the clear plastic cover disappears completely from my view. But I think a few tweaks to that would help.

Now that's odd, because all my buttons with the exception of the record enabler and a part of the main dial are all chrome. You can see that I added a micro bump to those areas that aren't. Maybe we do have slightly different models?

- Just one little detail. The blue print (MDLP) is a slightly to bright color (this one really is tiny huh :))

Well maybe, but I think that's an artifact of the specularity on the clear plastic above it. :)

No need to defend your critique. I don't necessarily agree with all your observations, but I do appreciate them :)

LOL!!!!!

BTW, I use Lightwave 3D and Photoshop for the texturing. Also since this model is for my reel, I won't be releasing it, sorry :)

BTW, here's where I'm at with modeling and texturing the headphones. Far from a perfect replica, but they're going well I think ;)

Damn, not sharing it... Hehehe, kanda expected that, but nothing wrong with trying, hehehe
I'll try to model my own... ;)

|Edit|
Ow yeah, were those the headphones u got with the player, or did u buy them afterwards?

Sure here it is. As you can see I decided against adding that MDLP sticker I took about 4 other stickers off the unit when I got it too. ;):p

Those headphones I bought separately as the ones that came with the MD broke rather quickly, as did the remote control. :annoyed:

Well there's the scan of the real thing right above your post :D

Locksuo, I use Lightwave 3D 7.5 :)

Well, I finished my headphones and put together a scene. I'm really not happy with the lighting yet, it doesn't match the reflections and all... but I thought I'd put it up anyway.

Be gentle ;) :wip:

Thats a great model Nova, very cool! Good materials too, but or some reason the actual player looks a little fake compared to the rest. Also I think the shadows on the ground are too dark (that could be whats making the player look fake) Considering the ground is about the same lightness as the player, but grey, the shadow should match that of the back of the player which you can see perfectly, but the ground shadow right next to it is solid black. Am i explaining that correctly? Lemme know if that doesnt make sense. Keep it up, this is looking awesome!

Nope I agree, I said as much in my post, that I wasn't happy with the lighting. I think what the problem is, is that my diffuse level on the MD body is too high compared with the headphones, which look much more realistic. Although the reflection in the chrome parts is too "hot" there as well.

I'm working on it :)
