View Full Version : Forum Fun 6: It's Reference Painting Time!
jeroentje 10-18-2002, 03:07 PM Hi all 2D wizards,
Here is a brand new ForumFun! Nr 6 allready :)
This your reference picture; the well known MS Windows XP bliss dektop theme.
You could just paint over it and give it your own style of painting.
But much more fun offcourse is to do something more with it and add and change stuff in it. It is completely up to you.
Now PAINT! Have fun and surprise us :)

An 800x600 version can be found at http://members.lycos.co.uk/superjeroentje/blissxp.jpg
Thanks for the pic Tim.

Heres one I did before class, to get the ball rolling.
Nothing fancy, just a quickie trying to emulate watercolour in PS7.

Here's an over the top evening version, sorry for kitsch factor ;)

A more subtle one this time, hazy morning sort of light:

edit: it's interesting to see the progress, the first one is too boring and too detailed, the second one the colours are too strong and cartoony but this one I think looks better, it's looser and really looks like watercolour.
Last one for now, looks like I'm the only one who likes this sort of challenge :)

I think you've got it down frog. I think emulating in PS looks almost better then the real thing. No muddy colours.

here is something I did before the windows XP screen was ever released, I was amazed at how similar my comp was to the XP screen without having seen it...
the grass is 3d and so is the tree, the sky is a retouched photo.
this piece was inspired by Isaac Asimov's foundation books....thus the giant spires.

this is just an idea i was playing around with, i put this together in photoshop, but what i wouold really like to do is a water color version in Painter.
also probably the colored version will be the aftermath of a civil war battle.

Actually i downloaded it somewhere. I thought about provoking one myself, but didnīt know how (deleting essential files maybe, or making fun of bill gates?). On the other hand, how do you screengrab when your computer hangs...?

@ CHRiTTeR : nope... I was using a computer that came with xp on it from dell. I think the problem lies in the fact I installed over 7gb in programs alone... that and a few registry modifications. hehe.

Let me know what you think.
Resolution's a bit crappy. Need to get some webspace.
Updated the face in the sky to blend in more.

re: :shame: ... sorry, i get a bit sidetracked sometimes.
@ tigrvision: this one I like. i think the face in the clouds kind of takes a little bit away from it, but the concept I really like.

Slacker, I was trying to blend the face a bit more in the sky. Maybe I'll tweak it some more later.
Where are everybody else's posts or is everybody too busy?
This is mine! :D

It's pretty rude to use a language not everyone understand in a public forum IMO :hmm:
