Although I don't really get the deepness of it and I know it is there... I know XERO greek mythology minus Zeus and Apollo. LOL!
This is professional level work and I love it but I would have had some DOF in it to blur out the background a bit.

Thanks for the comment.
It has a little DOF in the background but I didn't think it was necessary here cause I would have lost the Classic style.
that is a marvelous show of the figure, even though it's similar to the original concept statue your pose/angle are nicer. her face and upper body turned out perfect, could have fooled me if you said it was painted.
great workflow/conceptual work btw.

Looks really good, I don't like the particular style choice though, I think it clashes with the traditionally very refined paintings, but you executed it so damn well that I like it anyway.
I think there's a problem with the lighting though, there are some shadows missing, for instance the guy's hand on her hip isn't doing any occlusion on her. Just thought I'd mention it.

Why this "greek" woman is blond ?
There's no blond in greece !
I'm sorry but it's an etnological mistake.
I have a lot of greek friends and they aren't blond.
You can find this kind of fantasy only in the american films, not in the reality.
I studied ethnology and I know the greeks aren't blond.
They are mediteranian, not scandinavian, and the mediteranians are dark-haired.
Greek and Persian is the same race.
But I like the hero. He remind me a painting of David :

It's surprising because it's a low polymesh but it's realistic.
When I make a body, I use more than 1 000 000 polys.
I did this face with 150 000 :

If you actually read some Greek mythology (And history!), you'd find that many of the characters are described as being fair-haired. Blonde was considered as a form of perfection by the ancient Greeks. Consequently they depicted many of their deities as blondes (in fact I think most of the gods are described and depicted as blondes). And the people of ancient Greece liked to imitate their gods so many of them bleached their hair or wore light coloured wigs. Alexander the Great is an example of a famous person from that region of the world who was desribed as having blonde hair.
So if you'd actually studied this culture as you claim to, you'd know this.
Onto the subject of this piece of work - I really like it. I think it has a wonderful painterly quality to it :)

Besides;I personally think that an artist can go on to the extend to satisfy himself artistically.
That is why some artists work abstract ,Cubism,...and change everything and that satisfy them.

why are so many of you Persians obsessed with race?
1.You are NOT the same as Greeks.
2. The Persian empire does not exist anymore
3. Ask most Christian Greeks if they are the same as Muslim Persian and they will probably laugh it off. Most of the world doesnt know the difference between an Arab or an Iranian.

Even though i think this is great work and really impressive output you've gotten there, I still dont thingk it catagorizes as a "3D still". It looks like a painting (which was intended), and could all be done in photoshop. If this picture was posted in the 2D forums, then it would have recieved alot of applaus, but nobody would have asked if it was 3D.
Is it just me or do we see less "real" 3D in this forum than used to?
If i make a sphere in Maya and use 2/3 of the time to add extreme effects to make that sphere look like a masterpiece, can I then post it in the 3D stills forum?
Where is the limit?

(Anyway its still great work adel3d (http://www.cgtalk.com/member.php?u=28115)) :)
Why should 3D look "real"? This image is made with polygons, that classifies it as 3D. The fact that he has managed to achieve such a painterly look means he has managed to transcend the usual look that the majority of work around here sticks to, and for that I think this piece is an exceptionally good piece of work.

You can't be serious.......For the life of me I cannot understand why you'd pick this still of all the millions on this site (many worthy of critique) to be your first post and 3D render you bash. For one it was created in 3D and by doing so, has a new unique look and feel that can be captured in no other way. Secondly, just think if he wanted a different pose and how easy that would be to create. Lastly, what if he decided to create an animation from this......how out of this world would that be? This still is a unique blend of painterly characters and a three dimensional background that would be extremely difficult to create in any alternative means. Masterpiece comes to mind......
You can knock any other 3D render on this site, but not this one. I'll defend it until they kick me off of here. It gives 3D a good name.:)

what makes a work a 3D work is the tools that where used in creating the work, not the looks of it. similarly, if an excelent oil painter will creat a painting which will look totaly realistic in terms of geometry and shading he will not become a 3D modeler.
this work posted here by Adel is just in the apropriate place

Dear Leigh,Clinton (Mr.Positive) and Rubi ,
Thank you for your clarification and your support.
You said exactly what I wanted to say.
I think that the software is the tool but as an artist you should decide what style you wanna get out of it.Classic style has repeatedly occured in the history and that can also appear
in 3d works ; besides it can support more features that the previous Classic styles couldn't handle.
I wonder if Leonardo da vinci that creative genius were still alive could he stick to the traditional tools.

This is a classic! You have almost touched the genres of a genius like Michelangelo! I feel the tree could have been more elaborate, it looks too small or not big enough to support the lady. Love the expressions...I think you got inspired from Titianus' work. Maybe, her hair could have been 'composed' a wee bit better...but nevertheless looks absolutely great!

Although I like it very much and indeed this work is a masterpiece as some have said, I am going to make some picky comments.
The wind in her hair and in his red cap is great but the red cap seems to be all floating, there is no hanging point, and that makes it looking a little stiff. Her scalp seems a little dirty; it seems too dark too soon for a fair-haired lady (did you paint her scalp a little darker?). There is some smooth needed in the branch left to her middle back. There are maybe some UV that have been misplaced on the roots of Daphne, right in the middle the lines seem to be starching horizontally (3 zones). His nails are a little to dark around the edges and this gives them a dirty look but I love what you have done with her nails - beautiful job.
The general feeling for all that I see in this image is fantastic. I feel like I am bringing critiques to a master painter of some old times. This is not a good feeling. Did you have your inspiration from some painting?
Bravo.

Anyway, you are a strict man,and your opinion is well,I guess the artist will agree your comment, and do it better.

lol, you have the same thinking as me. As artists we are not here to praise each work of art just because everyone else is. If theres any place one should have an opinion, its here.
Well "others will tell you whats pink or gray one day.." is the edited version and it may even look smart, but it first had references to Mullah's. Matze is most probably offended by the signature and avatar of the person he was referring to, and was trying to open a totally off-topic discussion, here is his first message:
http://www.cgtalk.com/showpost.php?p=2394408&postcount=74
This thread is about Adel3d's work, and what Matze tells us is ENTIRELY off topic. What he says could however be discussed elsewhere on CGTALK, preferably without the needless sarcasm he puts forward. I do share his sentiments about women's freedom, and some countries really have to go a long way in that area. I am not against sharing educated ideas in a discussion, but trying to move *this* very topic away from Adel's work simply doesn't make any sense to me.
Don't think I am one of those not open to discussion.

Again, like everyone said, great great great work yada yada yada. I'm sure it's nice to hear, but I have some goodies for you - actual crits. Ok, so overall eveything looks AMAZING - you must have put your heart and soul into this - but I feel like it's almost TOO perfect.
If you're trying to achieve a kind of high renaissance oil-painting quality, you have to lower the detail level - it's overwhelming. That's a thing I see many amazing digital artists here in CGtalk do. Technology has enabled us Artists to put infinite detail in a piece zooming in and just working it out for hours. But when we finally zoom out it's hard for us to see that it's way too much, because we get attached to the piece.
Anyway, a good example of this is the man's hairline, and hair in general. Something is off there, also maybe it's the color balance. It doesn't look like something Raphael would have done. Her face is absolutely gorgeous in terms of anatomy and expression. His and her hands are great. The feet are a little bit off. Also, I think the female character has a lot more rythm in her pose. I think if you worked out the man's pose for a couple more hours instead of going in to paint the dirt on his fingernails it would have been much stronger. I also agree with previous crits about her dress and his robe, that doesn't seem to flow like her hair. The tree texture could use a little tweaking with the color balance.
Keep up the amazing dedication you have for your Art!

:wise: this is a beautiful bit of work. Very nice compostion, capturing the feel of classic tale and the style of the great classical painters....
the modeling and texturing are a grade, very impressive as is your attention to detail in back ground and foreground. I love the expression on here face, but think the man/apollo looks a little awkward in the way he is holding her. Maybe the sunlight could have come from a different angle as it seems to give life to the characters, but coming from the back it ads it at their edges. For all this though it is a modern day classic and i am awed and inspired by it. :scream::thumbsup:

hi. I like your work, and it surely took you entire days yo finish , didnīt it? but it looks a little bit "plastic" and your characters still need more intention in their faces and body: are they suffering? what is apollo really doing before Daphne? nice work, though.
